Yes engenius is using RP-SMA and its small. Where are you planning to place the ant that you bought. If its an external one I think its not using SMA connector. It uses N-type coonector. Maybe you can take a picture of the ant connector.

Thanks for the reply.
This is the antenna i got:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...8225&rd=1&rd=1
If the engenius is RP-SMA i'm pretty sure its going to work.
I'm really not looking to mount the antenna outside. I think its ugly. I wonder how it'd do if i mount both the usb adapter and antenna inside the dashboard.
btw, i just tested this antenna with my dlink pci wireless card and noticed that the signal strength of my connection did not increase much but what it did was pick up like 4 more APs around my area.

Ya the engenius is RP_SMA. I tried placing the ant inside the car and I noticed that the signal is weaker.

Hi,
I also bought a rp-sma 9dbi omni rubber antenna from ebay. I noticed no difference in signal from the 2dbi antenna that came with the eub-362 ext and my new 9dbi antenna. I also noticed no difference in signal with the same 9dbi antenna on my buffalo whr-hp-g54 router. I do notice a improvement in signal with a cantenna on the buffalo router and no signal difference on the the engenius. Has anybody noticed any signal difference with the 9dbi antenna on the engenius eub-362?

You guys know that you need a ground plane under these antennas, right? They need to be mounted ontop a flat piece of metal to work properly...likt the trunk of oyu car.
Otherwise the signal will be worse.

I believe so...as long as it's large enough. I don't think the metal plate needs to be wired to anything though. I would spend some time searching on the internet for antenna ground plane...or seomthing like that.

I did notice a signal difference between stock ant and the 9dBi rubber duck ant. I am able to get stronger and more ap's with the 9dBi.

Thanks, nemo1 for your reply.
This antenna is a a rubber duck antenna. The seller on ebay calls the antenna 9dbi omni.
http://www.data-alliance.net/servlet...Wireless/Detai
I do not think that I would need a ground plane with this type of antenna? I notice no difference in signal with this antenna. If I place the antenna next to my ear and lightly shake the antenna it rattles like something is loose or broken inside the antenna. I was wondering if the antenna is broken. I wrote the seller on ebay twice and he will not reply to my emails. l will not buy from him again and I am ready to leave negative feedback.

I need a new wifi adapter for the car since my dlink crapped out on me for the second time. I found this post and people seem to be happy with the engenius model. I was wondering though - 362 or 862 model? It will be mounted inside and I have no intention of throwing an external antenna on my car.
Thanks for the help!

The only difference is that the 862 supports 802.11a/b/g. The 362 support 802.11b/g.
Unless you have the need for 802.11a (which is old and slow), thent he 362 will do you just fine.

whats the farthest range these things can pick with a 7dbi magnetic antenna mounted inside the car?
I'm wondering if it's a big difference mounting the antenna inside car versus outside car.

I have a 7dBi antenna with a big ugly mag mount (it will be a surface mount eventually!) on the roof of my truck. I can pick up access points from as far as a half-mile away, depending on conditions.
I would imagine that there would be a significant reduction in range with the antenna inside the car, simply because the signals would have a ood deal of metal blocking the signal. Basically, it would have to escape through the windows, leaving less of the signal.
Frankly, if you're going to have the antenna inside the car, exchew an external and use the stock antenna. It's pretty damn powerful all by itself.
