Usb WIFI speed and power?

having used a usb wifi with an 7" antena and still having to be 20m from the source, other wise i got nothing.. im not to fond of usb for wifi
(i must state that the usb adapter was a 802.11B and the usb used was usb 1)

my delema is.. i wana put something in my one PCI slot that my via comes with..
i was going to but a good wifi card so i can atually network to my inside pc..

but now i was thinking now of puting a usb2 card (my via is old and has usb1) so i can run other usb2 things..

so my question is..
can a good usb adapter running on a usb 2 compair to a pci card?
