Thumbs up BEST Broadband Cellphone EVER!

Last Tuesday I picked up the LG CU320 from Cingular. Handsdown best phone I have ever had! The phone uses Cingular's new UMTS network (similar to EVDO). The phone by itself has a great interface, good sound quality, 1.3 MP camera, adn high speed internet on the phone for MediaNET and Cingular Video is screaming fast compared to EDGE. Wait... it gets better! When you tether the phone to your computer (with no hacking, unlike the E815 on Verizon) it sustained 200KB down and 120KB up. I know, that's not as fast down as EVDO, but its faster up (less lag time between transactions) and ... are you ready for this... you can talk on the phone while it is tethered to the computer w/o affecting the internet connection!

BEST PHONE EVER!

I am looking for tools to use on the computer with the phone for contact management etc... If anyone has any info for LG Tools that would be excellent!

The Details

The phone is about the same size as my old moto v551.

Cingular forces you to buy the $20 medianet unlimited plan. But all data after that is free (you still pay for premium content like music videos ringtones and the like). I only have the 450 minute plan for $35 because I don't use my phone during the day (that's what company cellies are for ). All in all my bill is 65 after tax. Also, right now the phone is only $50 after rebate in the Washington, DC area.

Which... DC area is where I'm using the phone. The cingular website has the coverage area for UMTS. Suppose to really expand by november from what I hear. Plus, when UMTS isn't avail, you can still access EDGE.

The camera actually swivels (SP?)... so when the slider is down, the camera lense is tilted back it gets covered by the batter compartment.

Bluetooth works great, pictures are great quality, also has the transFlash which is microSD card.

$20 for unlimited data?

I'd give my left nut for access like that in Canada. There's only 2 major carriers here, Rogers/Fido and Bell/Telus, so they charge whatever they want. Rogers doesn't even have an unlimited, all they have is 100MB for $100. Bell/Telus have Unlimited for $100, but if you abuse it, they'll cut you off and charge you an extra fee.

To make a long story short, quit yer bellyachin about $20 for unlimited data

well not really ulimited data. unlimited media.net (wap browsing) - what he's doing is tethering to his pc, which is officially unsupported, and frowned upon if you ask them about it, since they really want to charge you $80 (or whatever) for a real data plan.

I'd still take WAP over nothing. With WAP you get port 80, right? Not a prob. Forward that to a Proxy server on your always-on DSL/CABLE connected home PC and you are off to the races

It's a 3G capable phone...capable to do video phone at the later time in US (other part of the world already using 3G videophone feature). Thats why the camera swivel. Other 3G phone sometimes have 2 camera, one above or below the screen and the other one on the back of the phone itself.

Must be nice if we can integrated the videophone feature to the pc screen/carputer.

3G's not what its cracked up to be... except for a more common standard. When its available on land lines as well ( ie the vid confrences ) maybe untill then I'm sticking with 2G.
