When I say the site is "down", what I'm saying is that its internal links seem to all be broken. Either way, thanks for the tip.
So far, I've made good progress and come across reason to think that most of the i450s sold via Boost are already WiDEN-enabled (according mostly to info over on the Howard forums). I'll keep looking into it.
Meanwhile, I've gotten far enough that I'm actually posting this message from my carputer through my i450, so that's progress (we're not actually in the car at the moment, though). Cool!
My speeds so far:
dslreports.com speed test result on 2006-07-18 17:32:52 EST:
33 / 38
Your download speed : 33 kbps or 4.2 KB/sec.
Your upload speed : 38 kbps or 4.7 KB/sec.
and
dslreports.com speed test result on 2006-07-18 13:27:27 EST:
16 / 26
Your download speed : 16 kbps or 2 KB/sec.
Your upload speed : 26 kbps or 3.3 KB/sec.
Decent enough to do basic stuff with, and I only have 3 bars. We'll see...

I didn't read the last page or so, but i didn't see it before when reading this thread. For a little extra cash you can use accutracking http://support.accutracking.com/docs/boostsetup.html To track your phones location. Works with boost i450 phone. It is like $8 a month on top of the $6 you pay for boost. But you get online tracking of your phone in real time .
So what im also saying on the side is that if they have software that uses GPS and Internet Then there must be a way for us to do the same thing.
That way we would only need the phone for internet and GPS! I've never done any programming for phones so im not sure how easy it would be to create an app that would allow us to use both at the same time. Since the phone probably only has one serial line on it. you would only be able to use one option at a time. If only it also had bluetooth enabled
Oh well just a thought.

Ok here goes a tip for those who want t; know if the phone is widen anable... (steps for i450):
Push this set of buttons as fast as you can:
#*menu (the one with the little page right on top of the green call button) and right arrow (one of the four arrows that are around ok) then you going to be on trace mode after that go down until you see "err/channel" click ok then selet "on".... then get out of there with red hang button, after that go to "menu" select "web" and do a search, if you see "WPCH" and a set of numbers (like WPCH 5:5:6:0 *this change every x/secs) at the top right corner of the screen (where the signal icon is) you have widen anable. in the other hand if you just see the PCH you're screw then you need the CP which is like accessing to the bios in a computer (really easy)
BTW like I said before I got mine from BB and it was Widen anable out of the box (at least after reading and reading about the subject and finding out how easily is to know without codeplugs or calling CS) but still I'm just geting speds of 2.5/ 2.5 KB/sec in my area so I think I will get something faster.
Thanatos.

Yup, one of the guys in that nextel forum is from here and he say that nextel have the ability to turn on/off the widen server remotely for some areas, also that he used to have it but is been six months without the widen capability in our area.
Thanatos.

I'll be the first to defend the awesomeness of my purchase, and it has always worked when i need instant messaging or a web page served up in a second. But stress testing it by maintaining the connection for 30+ min or by downloading 5+ files at once, and the connection likes to freeze up.
Anyone else notice this, and if so have come to a fix? It may just be the drivers+ windows fault, and if that is the case I will just go buy a serial cable and hope for the best.
What I want to acomplish is an always on gps tracking solution, and with occasional hardware crashes that doesn't seem as doable...

stress test
Purdoom
I've left mine on 24/7 and had no problems for about 3 weeks. Then the battery died - guessing the charger wasn't seated right. I got it recharged in house overnight, back in car, and again has been good, but now I turn it off when I stop the car (at least at night - it does seem to run a long time without much problem).
Performance has been steady (ableit slow, 10-20kbps). Just got my home ftp site running, and it was autoloading files every minute, like a champ.
Still running down my original $10 credit, too!

I think its working fine; the usb hub was bad. Connecting the phone directly to the computer and stressing the heck out of its cappabilities, and it is still going.

got my phone and my cable and this is pretty nice! the phone says its connecting at 19.2kb, so i assume i'm only in Iden mode right? My download speed was in the 2kb-3kb range, and i used it yesterday for a 4 hour drive around baltimore with whereismygps and it seemed to update quite well. One thing i've noticed is that for apparently no reason at all my phone disconnects from windows (you can hear the usb drop sound). Anyone else have this problem? Simply unplugging and replugging the phone works to get it back up. Could be the cable i'm using, its an iden cable but it did not have the i450 on the list for compatibility.
