Wait.. There are conflicting statements here...
From Odyssey's quote of the Boost flier, it's pretty clear that you will be charged $0.35/day no matter if you use it or not: "The Boost Wireless Web fee is charged daily regardless of usage." But Odyssey's summary of: "Kinda like the $1 PTT, it cost a $1 for the whole day, but only for the days you use it. ...is not the same as the Boost statement.
The Boost website is not clear on this point: (from http://www.boostmobile.com/plans/pay...ls_alerts.html)
WIRELESS WEB
Your Boost Mobile phone is a mobile Internet source with fast, convenient access. To enable this feature, you must call Boost™ Customer Care directly from your phone by dialing 611.
* Checking your Hotmail® account
* Find movie times or the hottest dance clubs near you
* Getting the latest sports scores on ESPN
* $0.35 a day for unlimited access So... the root question that I think people are looking for the answer to is: "If I use Boost Wireless Web for 100 days out of a 365 day year, would I have paid $35 (100 * $0.35) or $127.75 (365 * $0.35) across that year?"

PTT is only if you use it. For the data at .35cent per day, it is whether you use it or not. So, 100days = 35.00 and so on...

??? Right, so if I activate my phone today, and for the next calendar year I only use the web access 100 days, I will have paid $127.75 (365 * $0.35) across that year. It may be better to look at this as appx $10.65/month no matter what the usage.
When you agreed with Odyssey, it looked like you were saying that Boost will NOT charge you for the days you do NOT use web access.

OOPS!

Nevermind, seems I am wrong. It is 35 cents a day. 365 x .35 = 127.75

Going back through the thread, it looks like people are talking about 12kbps.. slower than two generations ago of dialup.
An example of wall-clock time would be that this page we're looking at now is 140K in size, so 140KB/12kbps = 116 seconds.

Yeah I agree, I've tried surfing the web with it on the car and realized that I rather wait to check my mail when I get home. On the other hand, for the app that I'm using it for, I get an SMS txt message to my phone within 12 seconds if my alarm goes off so I guess it depends on what you use it for.

Exactly! I don't stream radio on my service, I use it for:
- GPS point uploading
- Instant messaging
- POP3 e-mail in the background
And for these purposes the dedicated cheap internet service works great.
It doesnt take 116 seconds to download this web page, because today most web browser / web servers compress their web traffic using gzip. http://perl.apache.org/docs/tutorial...nt_Compression
This page gzipped is 20 k large, which only takes 7 or 8 seconds to load on a web browser.

Whoops.. good point. But, depending on your browser cache, you'll also need to load the images and objects (there are 59 on the page) - all zipped it ends up being 188K, unzipped, the package is about 470K.

I am wondering the same thing, only for an i450. I have the RSS software and I can connect to my phone and download the data. However, I can't figure out which values change it to WiDEN mode. I am pretty positive that it does not currently have WiDEN. I did this by going into Trace Mode.
Can anyone assist? Thanks!
Jason
(To get to Trace Mode, press the pound key, star key, Menu button, and finally the right arrow. Do not use a combination of them, just press each one. And, do not wait as this will make it "time out".) Then, you go down to "Err/Channel" and press the right arrow key to change it to Yes. Press the Back button, or "Hang up". Begin to do data transfer (browse around or look at your account balance/status). Look at the top left of the screen, and if you see ""WPCH" then you have WiDEN. If you see PCH, then you do not have WiDEN enabled.
