Well, cable came today. Tried it out on my xp machine. Did one of those broadband tests from speakeasy. 24kb down, 12kup. According to windows, connected to the modem at 115.2kb.

Guess the next step is to figure if widen is enabled or not.

@ linux - if it comes down to it, you could buy the serial cable for the phone rather than the USB cable. Every linux distro on the planet that supports PPP will support a Serial modem.

I'm sure it's doable. Just the fact that no one has that I could find

I enabled tracemode on the phone and it says it has a label enabled Widen, though I'll be damned if I could understand what the numbers mean.

Whoohoo!

First post from the carpc. Stil slow but setting up the connection was easy. I'm using KPPP on Ubunutu Edgy

Found the modem with no problem and it was mounted under /dev/ttyACM0

Just set the port to 115200, Flowcontrol=NONE,Line term=CR and unchecked wait for dialtone.

For the actual connection settings,
I entered the usual number (s=2#777)
Authentication=Scriptbased (though I didn't select a script)
Ip=dynamic (obviously)
gateway=default
dns=automatic

One thing I had to do was take eth0 down or it would try and get out that way even though it was unplugged. Actually, I had to take it down and then reset the boost connection.

Speed is about 11kb max. These settings might not be optimal, but they do work,

The phone will NOT prompt for the forward confirmation, it will do "as you'd think" and go through it's boot sequence then load your Java app and leave it in an active state.

I think that goes to saying that the phone needs to stay open in order for this process to be clean.

So now... how do we get the phone the auto-power up when external power is applied? i.e., when the phone's been on for a day without power, the (phone) battery dies, and you start your car? Hmm...

hey, that's pretty good news... I just got my phone today, the guys at mologogo are great, helpful & reliable from my conversations with them so far...

I'l look into powering the phone & stuff when I get a chance to play with it a bit...

Ummm... "dying so quick"? Do you mean my reference to "been on for a day without power"? I dunno that's "so quick" given that yeah, it's transmitting a lot...

I had said above somewhere that I was thinking the battery life is about 8 hours with a 2 minute interval, I think BugByte said 5 hours with a 1 minute interval. So, "a day" (if we're casually calling that, say, 16 hours?) is a long time...

I figured if it was sporadically transmitting, you would get more than 8 hours as I thought standby was listed as 70 hours.

Does Mologogo transmit on a constant interval? I just put loopt on my phone this weekend, haven't played with it much, but notice (by the interference on my speakers) that it tends to update every hour. I wonder if it wasn't in a static location, would it update more.

Interesting theory about Loopt possibly being smarter than Mologogo... Could be.

The MG Java applet likes to show things that spin, and it seems to pop up the GPS icon a lot, so it's quite possible that it's more of a pig than it needs to be. To bad the source isn't available... hmmm.

Hmmm, glad I reread this. There is a Widen entry in my i455 trace menu, but doing this test, I get pch, so maybe I need to plug it.

I got same crap, it says widen in the menu but same pch... it's really slow...., gotta go back to see what the solution there was...

I played a bit with the phone, shorting the power button for auto on won't work cause it puts it in flight mode, I'm thinking a small cap across the power switch should make it auto on when powered, kinda like the older lilli's, gotta pick up the tool to take this apart... also trying to come up with a way to build it into the car... my first thoughts ae building it into the rear view mirror wth the display showing through the mirror glass, clear view of the sky, might be an option...

i just purchased a boost i415, and ordered two data cables off ebay...

i have a quick question.....
i was wondering what the extent of gps via data cable was...like, would you be able to use it with...say network stumbler? thanks in advance.

You cannot use the GPS with your PC at all with a USB data cable. You would need a serial cable to do that.

Dang it folks, I'm really sorry, but I was _wrong_.

The i455 running Mologogo _IS_ transmitting when it's powered up, closed and with the "Forward On" prompt showing on the external LCD.

Mine is doing it now, as I sit here, watching it.

I think what confused me is that the timestamp shown on the user's Mologogo screen is not in local time. I figured it must be GMT, and therefore I thought that the phone hadn't transmitted in hours. Nope, the time stamp is actually EASTERN time, so it's only 3 hours off from me, not 8 hours.

Turbocad, your hack work just got a bit easier.

You only have to get the phone to auto-power on, you don't have to leave the phone open, or try to get a PIC to hit the OK button.
