Cell/PDA Internet without tying up the phone line (internet, calling simultaneously)?
I currently have a sprint cell phone (PM-8200) and used it frequently to connect to the internet on my laptop last school year. I used FutureDial and dialed #777. I liked this very much, but unfortunately the connection took control of the cell phone and I was unable to place or receive calls without disconnecting from the internet. Worse yet, I didn't even know when I was getting incoming calls as they were just blocked.
Now I've graduated and moved to a different state, and the Sprint service here is lacking at best. So, I'm needing to get a new cell phone. I have read through several different posts (using FutureDial on Verizon, Sprint) and the Cingular, T-Mobile threads. Unfortunately, I haven't found this information available--do any of these services allow you to both make calls and utilize the internet at the same time? I don't care if the internet bandwidth is reduced drastically, and even just being able to tell when there's an incoming call and hang up on the internet would be acceptable (though preferrably both simultaneously).
I'm planning on putting together a carPC and so I'm trying to plan ahead regarding which cell phone provider I decide on. If it is necessary to buy a separate cellular computer card and pay the $50 or whatever each month for car internet, but I'll still be able to use my cell phone, that may end up being worth it--but if there's alternatives I'd prefer just paying for one cellular device.
PDA-type options are not out of the question, if that provides an alternate way of achieving the same goal.
