How much $$$ For Wi-Fi?

I hate to do this but I couldn't find any relative information in a search. And the stickies all have links to discontinued products. So how much dough am I looking at to put Wi-Fi in my car? Also, can I get a PCI card that would some how magically fit into my Ampie case, or do I have to go USB? Basically I'm looking for something I can get for cheap on Ebay the same way I did my GPS receiver.

umm....why don't you just search for wi-fi cards online and get an idea on price?

do you even know how to connect to wi-fi if you're asking a question like this?

do you know that you have to be in a hot spot to use it?

Since you have a ampie case, I would recommend something like this

I know exactly how much it would cost if I went to Futureshop and picked up the pieces but I want to know of some cheap online places to pick it up.

Thanks man, so it looks like that Linksys is on Ebay for about $30 to my door. That's not bad, anything else I need to know besides buying it, finding a good mounting point and plugging it in? Besides wardriving I mean, I still have some reading to do on that software. I just need the hardware for now.

You will maybe also want a extender antenna (so you will need to either mod your Wi-Fi adapter to take ext antenna or buy something like the Engenius EUB-362 EXT)

Link to a 7Dbi antenna:

Sure do...I've got a similar antenna and its ok from my driveway (5m away from the wireless AP) but any further and its reception is utter crap. Might be my mini-PCI wireless card thats crap, but its one of the two...

I still say the best way is either a hacked linksys wrt or a usb wifi dongle with external antenna. Keep the coax to a minimum. That's mainly why those antenna don't work well. Even though it's microwave grade coax it's still pretty lossy. Best place I've found to get wifi stuff is www.fab-corp.com. They're based in Florida. They've actually had stuff sent to me overnight. That's pretty damn good, Flordia to Alaska in one day is pretty tough to do.

I have one of those in my car and onother my house from hyperteach (same company as FAB and sharper comc.) and they work pretty damn well )without the extender ant 2 AP with it 9 AP) so i can say for sure they work (also ask more people here that have been using it for years)

Gotta be. Few people said that those high gain antennas do not work that well with "regular" wireless cards. They need more power...either an amplifier or an engenius card. With my engenius, I notice a difference between the regular antenna and the 7dbi ebay antenna.

Amps should be your last resort. Ask any Ham. Unless you don't want kids, then amp away.
