Question T-mobile internet speed/satisfaction question

I know that T-mobile EDGE is not as fast as others but I work for T-mobiles sister company T-systems and I can get it for cheap.

I don't know anyone that has it and was wondering what are the EDGE speeds are and how often does it go down to GRPS (up to 56K).

Please let me know if you are happy with it or is it a waste of time.

Thanks

Greg

i have t-mobile too, but i went a different route, i bought the data cable from ebay for $5, then i signed up for free 56k from netzero, now i just use my cellphone as an external modem to signon, it only costs me the same as a regular voice call to any phone, so i don't have to pay anything

I guess, that would work too, just slow.

I was wondering if their internet plan is worth the trouble.

How??

Injector-

what phone do you have? i've tried to use my t610 as an external bluetooth modem to dial into my aol and msn accts with no luck.

i thought the problem was with t-mo, but if you got it to work then that gives me hope.

can you post your steps?

I had never thought of that. So it just eats up minutes then huh. I would probably forget to disconnect lol

what error did you get?
do you have the modem driver for your phone?
did you use the windows dial software or the aol software?

well the way i did it it was with a samsung phone, i used easyGPRS which works with any samsung phone, but you can use other phones, like now i'm using my nokia 6101, the way you do it, is install the cell software, then goto the add hardware wizard, then click on add modem, tell it not to detect but to choose from a list, inside the list you should see your phone's manufacturer, keep in mind you still need the modem driver for your phone, a quick google search will help you out, i use this method because windows just sees the cellphone as a regular external modem which gives me less hassle, and in your case philly with the modem installed as a part of the windows hardware you can still use the AOL (which sucks, relax my opinion) software to dial in

error was something along the lines of "connection refused at server." which i thought translated to 't-mo has blocked dialing up to isp's b/c we offer our own data package'

SE T610 is my phone

i'm using bluetooth modem. i can see the phone start to dial. it just disconnects after it starts.

tried both ways. i was using aol4 and it never found my modem. when i used msn i used the windows dialing.

i will def look at easyGPRS and see how it goes from there.

thanks for a point in the right direction

have you tried to use the pc dial a number you know?
example you make a new dial up connection using the windows new connection wizard, but instead of dialing you isp you make it dial you house phone, why? so you can atleast establish if the phone is dialing and establishing a successful connection.

the thing about aol is that it's moody, even if you use the windows dialer to dial the isp and give it your user and pass it will still tell you, NO, that is the whole reason i told you about the modem driver, with easy gprs i got lucky because it came with the driver already, it basically tells windows your cellphone is an external driver, that way any isp software you have can use it w/o problems

here's a pic of my hardware manager and thr properties for my dial-up connection, as you can see it can choose either the cellphone or my my internal laptop modem and windows does not know the difference nor does my netzero software.

No luck

Here's the error: (and I got when dialing msn and my work phone#)

Error 678: The remote computer did not respond. For further assistance...

I double checked my dialing rules and ran a diagnostic on the modem through device manager.

It comes back with successes and mentions something about wap.voicestream.com.

It also lists GPRS as a supported interface along with irda, bt, etc.

I just signed up for the free netzero, so we'll see if that fixes it.

easyGPRS is for samsung phones only, the same way nokia has nokia pc suite, you could try the sony support website and they might have their own software, as for the modem driver i really wouldn't know you could try google or the sony site

for some reason it's trying to use your cellphone as cable modem not a dial-up modem,it's trying to use the internet in your phone, not making a call, you might want to check your settings

this would be normal because when you dial yoour work number does not answer with a dataline (all the noise dialup makes), did your phone even ring?

search begins for sony drivers....

no need

use bluetooth w/ Widcomm drivers
when the phone is recognized by computer, it will setup any possible features.
Sony ericssons work great ( T610,T616,&637 ) ..
Mines a T610 and I just have it dial the phone ( *99***3# ) which connects to the internet.
I set " Internet Preferences " on the computer ( both IE & Firefox linked ) to use a proxy server with IP & Port 8080

simple, no other software needed

thanks again for all of your help.

It works, I have a T610 that I used to use. I used it with my laptop from time to time.

When you try to dial the ISP, with your PC, does the phone light up and show it's making a call?

My laptop is with my wife 200 or so miles from here right now, so I'm going from memory on this... Make sure the connection is set as an analog link and not GPRS. Look around the T610 modem properties and such..
