Dashboard Ready!!!
Hi all,
Yesterday I got the dashboard parts that were being painted and had them installed.
DASHBOARD IS DONE!
Here is the first picture of it:
Quick comparison between BEFORE, DURING and AFTER:
It looks very nice. The original dashboard was all grey, the new one has parts in black, its much better. Also the quality of the painting makes it look like an original part from honda hehehehe.
Note the lower part that was completely fabricated to host the Air Conditioner, USB and Lighter. I lost my cup handler (didn't use it that much...), and there is also a new slot to hold things, as I mentioned in another post was made by Italian Sound, a friend's car audio store. For the brazillians I recommend them if you don't have much time to do the fabrication yourself: 11-5522-8408 ask for Luis, the guy is an artist!
The AC relocation was not easy, but not that difficult to do. The challenge was the metal cable that controls temperature. Since I've only moved the AC from the top to the bottom, the cable lenght was fine, but the button was little bit hard to move (left-right), so we had to cut around 5 centimeters of it so it will curve better in its way inside the dashboard and now the button is slidding easier.
The USB port iin the dashboard s an extension that goes back to the trunk. I decided not to use a hub, because there was no real need for more that one port there. Btw there is another extension for the Lilliput hidden behind.
The lighter will be installed this week, I found one that has a green light that looks better. Note that there is a hole for it there, wiring is done. I will use it for the cellphone charger, as usual, probably.
So what's next?
Tomorrow I will reconnect the CarPC in the trunk, and will take new pictures, with RR running.
I still need to get the trunk fabricated. I decided to put the sub in a new box integrated in the trunk in the left, the CarPC in a fabricated case in the right and replace the trunk carpet.
Project almost done! (Phase 1 of course heheehh)

Could you give more detail on how you fabricated the dash piece for the A/C controls?

Yes, I will post more pictures of the dashboard fabrication soon. I just need to get the pictures, I didn't use my camera.

Thanks, there are still many things to do in this "phase 1", such as the trunk fabrication. But once all of that is done, phase 2 will be OBD Data Logging, Cell Phone, Rear-View cam, WiFi.

Trunk fabrication in progress...
Hi,
Here is the first pictures of the trunk.
First here is the trunk before:
Here is the right side done (wood), will be painted or covered with the same gray carpet. The CarPC "slot" will have a transparent acrylic window:
Some pictures of that part being created (by Italian Sound):

I got a piece of metal from an old PC case, and used that to hold the MotherBoard (it already have the holes for it), M2-ATX and HDD (I had to drill holes for them). This metal was cut to the minimum size to fit in the slot we've created in the wood.
I've added 5 Coolers, 2 "inbound", 2 "outbound" and there is another one behind the wood that will take the air from one side to the other. I am using high performance (but silent) coolers, and I hope to have great flow of air there.
We still need to do the trunk floor (with a "door" to access the spare tire), and also the left side of the trunk (with the sub).
More pictures soon.
Thanks!

Mate, fabulous worklog you've got here. It's coming together great!!
I too was planning to use a different, larger motherboard and go for the boot mounted install, but after reading good things about the Intel I just had to pick one up.

Thanks!!! :-) It's being fun.
Yes the intel D201GLY has very good performance (I use RR, DigitalFX skin, Destinator 6, even Google Earth), and the price is fantastic.
Intel have just released the version 2 of this board, see: http://www.intel.com/products/mother...GLY2/index.htm with a better CPU and SATA, and the price is still low. Check it out.

My D201GLY is already in transit, but nevermind! The original will do everything I want just fine anyway.

Trunk fabrication in progress... (continued)
Hello,
The trunk is almost ready:
BEFORE (the plan):
CURRENTLY (work in progress):
The Sub-Woofer box, the frame for the Amplifier and CarPC are all installed.
I just need to cut the holes in the carpet for the coolers and Distribution Box (fuses). The wood is already cut (see previous posts), just the carpet, that is quick.
Also, the trunk "floor" (I don't know a better name) is being fabricated, and will get carpet too, and a piece that can be removed to access the spare tire.
I hope to have all that done and CarPC installed back up to tuesday (3 days).
Thanks

Hi,
Today I installed the CarPC in the right of the trunk and tested it. Everything is working fine, but the screen has some noise.
I need to double check the cables, I am afraid that the amplifier is too close to the MoBo... The screen noise flows accordingly to the music.
I will post pictures in the next few days.
So, the last think is the trunk "floor", it's already cut just need carpet.
Thanks

Or maybe the noise also could be coming from the speaker's imam if the lcd wires are passing near them.

The trunk is done, will take pictures to post.
The noise in the screen was resolved, the VGA cable was passing together with the Lilliput 12v wire.

I opened the case in the trunk to add the bluetooth usb, put all back in place. The noise in the image reappeared #$(*&#$... I will reopen and check the cables, again...
Next weekend I will post pictures, I promise :-)
I forgot to mention that I am now testing Centrafuse (have both RR and CF installed), because the Destinator6 POIs only work in CF so far.
