What's with all the self-pity? You have over 8,000 hits on this thread. Does that really indicate to you that no one "cares"?

Not to sound harsh, but what is the point of making your own? Why not use something like iGuidance? It doesnt seem to be resource hungry (from what i can see). It cool you have the knowledge to make it though...... Also when you going to post pictures of the car and system in it, are you still bench testing?

I really hate the fact that they use licensed maps when there are free, user-editable maps out there such as OSM. I think there is room in the navigation industry for a new player (me). So some more fine tuning and it will be releasable.
I keep taking it in and out of the car to tweak stuff so I never get around to finalizing it. I have a pretty busy work/social schedule so I kind of end up going slow...

I hear you and understand, be being a buy off the self type of guy, I could never even dream of designing my own software/player. I also hear you on not having time.... I work so much and have 4 dogs (thier like kids but worse because they can bit, lol) and I just quit a second job for a bit more of time, but I miss the money so I may find a new one.

I had a good experience with them. Shipping was fast and the product was packaged well. The case is not the most rugged product but for the price is good.

UPDATE:
Project is on hold due to lack of funds and spontaneouse purchases of a new PC and cell phone (G1 ;-).
Next step is new audio.
I also decided that a commercial release of the nav/frontend was useless because I cannot keep up with the major players' features, such as google streetview. I mean, seriously, how can any nav system compare with streetview??
But I will probably release an integrated frontend/nav eventually for cheaper than the competition. If I do, the UI will be open source and driven by a closed source .NET assembly.

OMG finally an update.... I must be in the dark ages but I havent heard of google streetview. I guess I like iG4 that much. I hear you on the lack of funds though, only thing left on my install is the dash area, then im done, but because I have to pay some1 to do it, its on hold. So for now I have to listen to the OMG some1 broke into your car and ripped out the whole dash comment.

You should check out Google Streetview, it really is cool. I can see my car in my driveway on it! Just go to google maps and zoom in on a major city until the streets have a blue outline, then click streetview.
Nice dash ;-P

Thats cool.... it has old pictures though... on mine I see no cars in my drive way, we were probably at work, but it shows the neighbor's car that lived here 1 year ago.
