Well here goes. I mounted my lilliput today in my new XB.
This is my 2nd try at a carPC. My first was my 07 accord coupe.
THat worked out great.
I really considered going no headunit and flush mounting the lilli in the double DIN space but after some trial fitting i think it will work great on top of the double DIn as seen here. Installed already was a DUAL xdvd8281 headunit.

This way i still have a full stereo if the carPC is out of commission or i can run a movie plus have NAV run on the top screen during long trips.

Also for the rear seat passengers the top screen is very easy to view. I may not have to do a drop down monitor now.

I just ordered my BU-353 usb gps module and will be ordering a motherboard this week.
Not sure which board yet and maybe a M4 power supply.

I ran a ac/dc converter last time and it worked fine but i want this to be a cleaner car PC install this time around.
Here are some more screen shots.

yes it may seem a target for theft but my windows are VERY dark and when its parked you cannot even see inside no matter what and i usually never drive anywhere where i worry about it.

If someone wants to steal anything then they will. Oh well right..
I am thinking of mounting the PC on the right dash where the papers are . Its above the glove box there is a little shelf where i could mount a small case and hard drive.

Have you thought about using some sort of hinge on that? Maybe something that locked in place?

It would look and function awesome if it opened/closed.

Besides that - i still like it. Looks nice next to your HU.

Very interesting! The two screens look great in place. I agree with Mikey-Z -- a hinged mounting system would be a great way to make it less conspicuous when parked and still functional in use.

We use dark-tinted side windows in our xBs ('05 and '06), and we have reflective windshield sunblocks we put in when parked, so no one can see in through the windshield. We've also kept the exteriors pretty plain-jane -- just wheels and tires -- so they attract less interest.

***EDIT: . . . and some cretin still broke in and stole the monitor and mounting system right out of the dash on one of our cars. ***

Maybe the dark-tinted windows didn't work, and they were stolen.

Nice. Thanks for posting again. I'm about to pick up a 2nd gen xB myself and was wondering how people are mounting their LCD's without using the double-din stereo space. How has it been putting the LCD up top in front of the gauges?

From the drivers seat i can still clearly see all the gauges just fine.

I like having both screens in case the PC has issues but i mainly use the Alpine to have a better source unit for audio control.
