I did not plan to use any DVD/cdrom.
I want to use only USB stick and 2.5" external HDD. OS installation has been made by my 8GB usb stick. The motherboard boots on USB.
I have the possibility to use an external USB SLIM SLOT LOAD DVD/CD in the glove box. I already bought them and would use it as option.

I could integrate a slot load in th 2DIN unit only if I could buy/get a PROLOGY 1/2 INDASH screen here.

But no way to have one.

Amazing work! Enjoyed reading this whole thread. I find you way of modding PCB's interesting, carving out the ground areas to make your own solder pads, very smart. I have learned from this thread, very useful information. You are quite talented with electronics, my hats off to you sir!

Inside the car

Today I have tested in the car.
I was pretty happy of the result.

Some noise in audio (I heard the motor throught the speakers). I will try to integrate a tiny Ground Loop Isolator to my system.

Some pictures :

But at the end of the day, when parking the car in the garage, SHRIIIIIiiiIINnnNNnkKKKK!, I scratched the left rear side :

coucouillu,

You, sir, are an inspiration!

Currently, I am modding my base 2006 350z radio with intergrated DVD/CD-RW and customizing the buttons to do my bidding on my carpc. The goal is complete stealth for the install (screen will be in the dash cubby).

The DVD is in and working, but have been contemplating the modding of the other functions. Your work has provided many ideas and tips.

Thanks for sharing your work! And GREAT JOB!

I will start my own worklog someday soon... nothing like the accountability of the community asking for progress pics to keep one motivated

coucouillu, awesome project. Always when everything is going good something stupid like a scratch on car will happen. one time i got new tires on my truck and bamn slammed into someone as soon as i drove away.

Someone asked about how to calculate the checksum. For your project i guess you just sent the commands that you captured. But it looks like a simple addition checksum. Add the first four bytes together then send the total.
i.e. flip up 54 + 54 + 89 + 1C = 14D drop the 1 because a byte only goes to FF and you get 4D (in hex)

Hi PROFIT,

Next time I will modify/update my screen firmware, I will try.

If I understood, I have to send the word "14D" and it should work.

I have had a switch for two modes.

I set the µSDC20 in Voltage Sense Start Mode.
In this mode the controller will wait until the car battery voltage is above 13 volts indicating that the engine is running and the alternator is charging the battery or keeping it charged. This mode is useful because when I start the engine, votage is cutted during the second I start. So to avoid the computer to wake up until the engine turn, I set this mode.

But at home, I make tests with +12 power supplies. So the PC can't wake up because in this mode, the *SDC20 needs +13V.

I added a switch to turn off this option :

very nice project. I love when people put a little time into their work and do things right! something to be proud of.

last year I bought a new car and a new stereo to go along with it. I got the sub that I had my eyes on for the past few years and had been dreaming of it. diamond audio D9 15 inch sub in a 3.5 cubic foot slot ported box, dual 2 ohm coils. wanted to do dual kenwood amps to power it, but I got a single amp to start off, so wired it for 1 ohm into a 2400 watt kenwood class D amp. hurt my ears while I had it. the car was 3 weeks and 2 days old, and the stereo was barely a week old. got hit by a drunk driver, smashed the amp, sub has a small dent in the center but still works fine. hit and run. found out who did it, had a license plate number and a witness, the police brushed it under the carpet and my insurance company paid for it minus the deductible. lawyer could barely get a hold of the officer, didn't do much more then that.

morals to this story:
1. it happens to the best of us at the worst time.
2. new cars are magnets for scratches, dings, and wrecks.
3. the police suck, and are lazy jackasses

subscribed to the thread. would love to see more updates and information
