I would love to have a screen like that in my car. here's an idea, have led lighting or neons or something in the car anywhere? control them from the media computer, it's a piece of cake. that's something I'm good at doing, I can give a hand if you like the idea. is it a touch screen? something like, push a button on the screen and have the under-carriage of the car light up blue. another button lights up under the seats, another button locks down the car so no one can start it without a pass code. reminds me of how the guy starts his car in the transporter, sweet.

Thumbs up

hi coucouillu, i am amazed by your technical skills, patience, and the desire to integrate a pc within the oem radio.

However, my question is, why are you booting from a USB device, when there are other faster connectivity options, like UDMA/66, UDMA 100, UDMA 133, firewire, and SATA?

what are the pros and cons does this reverse engineered OEM radio have over some aftermarket double din carpc's?

Is it simply just the OEM look of the dash?

If it's the "high" you get by refining your electronic skills, and the desire to creating something different, then I can relate to that.

I commend you on making something out of the stock radio, that the average Joe, wouldn't be able to comprehend. Absolutely eccentric!

I do not boot from USB. I boot from a 16GB Solid State Disk (stronger when car is bumping, fast boot, etc...) connected through SATA and have an external 2.5"HDD 160GB for medias. The motherboard do not have firewire.

The first reason, you're right is the OEM look. I really love that.

The second is that muy car is stil under waranty and I didn't want to madify any harness/plastic to instal a car pc.

To install my prototype, simply remove OEM radio and replace with mine.

All OEM features still works (Text in the cluster, radio, BOSE sound system, etc...)

The last but not least reason is to make my own, self made car pc.

No, i meant you would send hex byte 0x4D (binarry 0100 1101) for the checksum. You would still need the first 4 bytes. It just looked like a simple checksum calculation to me.

If you add the first four bytes you can calculate the checksum byte.

hex / binary
54 = 0101 0100
54 = 0101 0100
89 = 1000 1001
1C = 0001 1100

14D = 1 0100 1101 <- one byte is 8 bits
4D = 0100 1101 <- so the checksum would drop the 9th bit if there was one.

I have no idea what commands are available. Just thought i would give some insight on the checksum byte.

However......your board soldering and modifing skills are awesome! I've never tried to modify the board directly. I've always used perf board and had to find places to mount them. Cutting away the ground plane to make room for parts and connections.....brilliant.

I will be watching this thread.

Thank you PROFIT for the interest.

It still hard to me to understand how works the checksum. I will learn more about it this week end on Google.

Here are scans I made of different commands of the lilliput :

Code:
'FLIP UP 54,54,89,1C,4D 'FLIP DOWN 54,54,89,1D,4E 'VGA 54,54,8A,0,32 'VIDEO1 54,54,8A,1,33 'VIDEO2 54,54,8A,2,34 'TV 54,54,8A,3,35 'SELECT C 56,56,AA,10,10,76 'CANNEL + 56,56,AA,10,10,76 'CANNEL - 56,56,AA,11,20,87 'TOGGLE 56,56,AA,2B,10,91 'MENU 56,56,AA,2C,10,92 (AVAILABLE IN TV MODE) 'DOWN 56,56,AA,11,10,77 'UP 56,56,AA,10,20,86 '+ 56,56,AA,20,20,96 '- 56,56,AA,21,20,97 '0 56,56,AA,0,10,66 '1 56,56,AA,1,10,67 '2 56,56,AA,2,10,68 '3 56,56,AA,3,10,69 '4 56,56,AA,4,10,6A '5 56,56,AA,5,10,6B '6 56,56,AA,6,10,6C '7 56,56,AA,7,10,6D '8 56,56,AA,8,10,6E '9 56,56,AA,9,10,6F '_/__ 56,56,AA,A,10,70

My job takes me actually a lot of time.

I hope make paiting soon.

I don´t know what to say except WOW!
Love that you´re making it OEM-looking, a good installation is a installation you doesn´t even notice.
I´m gonna follow this thread with joy, this is probably the best mod i´ve ever seen, and I don´t mean just carputingmods, I mean best, all categories!

This week end, I worked on sound quality.

I had some problem with the alternator of my engine with some ZzzZZziiiiIIIiiiIIIiiii in speakers when the engine was running.

i decided to use the optical output of the LS-372 mobo through a DAC :

Digital output fomr mobo (Toslink)==>DAC==> clean stereo output

Here is the DAC I bought :

I removed unused CINCH/RCA connector:

I will be able to try soon if the sound is better.

Hi BoostFab,

No, I used easy PICBASIC 3B coded in BASIC. It was easiest for me to start (great and simple tutorials for starting).

I would love code in C on real PIC µcontroller.

Painting face plate

I have got some problems. With heat, some bubbles appear :

But the rest is OK :

I have modified the PCB of the faceplate to put on it dual microphones.
I have to test if the results are good enough. I hope I could be heard well (phone + voice recognization).
I made 2 little holes ine the plastic faceplate :
