Separating Symphony II from its internal CD changer

Thanks for a very interesting (and inspiring) write-up.

One piece of information that I don't see is how you connected your PC to what's left of the original Symphony II. Did you use a car2pc adapter?

How does the Symphony II cope when you remove its internal CD changer? It looks like it's just a separate DIN unit bolted to the head unit -- is it simple to separate the two, or are they more intimately connected?

I have a car2pc adapter already, and will mount a Pico-ITX PC (175*96*46mm) underneath the passenger seat. I'm thinking of getting a 1-din or ½-din motorised screen, and just removing the internal CD changer, running USB and VGA cables from under the seat.

Hi DWMW2,

When you remove the CD drive of this unit, it disables CD mode.I bought a 35€ CD CHANGER EMULATOR (only emulate) in order to input sound into the unit (using the AUX IN pins of the CDC harness)

For your project, If you use a PICO + 2DIN unit, I would suggest to put all in
it.

I am actually working on my new project based on an AUDI CONCERT III + 1/2 DIN PROLOGY VGA USB touch screen. When you remove the CD DRIVE, it also disables CD mode. I am trying to emulate the MP3CD drive of the CONCERT II in order to have full integration beetween motherboard and the Audi unit use of the PREVIOUS/NEXT buttons, displaying MP3 name etc...)

Hi ,

Sorry for late answer. I haven't received email telling me you posted.

I don't really understand "I need my fix!".

Do you want update of the project of this THREAD (Symphony II) or my new one (CONCERT III)?

Punky is on a distinguished road
is that solder that you used to attach all your metal parts together?

Hi

No solder otherwise I would not be able to make any maintenance.

The 2 metal parts are fixed together by 4 screws (2 on each side).

Removing them, I could remove the top part (the motorized screen) and access into the unit where the motherboard (+ SSD + power supply + shutsown controller ..) are fixed.

Look at THIS post if you need pictures details.

Brice

I have the Bose system option. It is enough for my ears.

My project was to make an OEM replacement PCCAR with no any modification of the car.
