Sry to clutter your worklog, just excited about sharing!

I started this thread in case you want to respond again...

Edit: Lol you edited yours and found that it does split sound, so now my post looks funny.

NO, its co clutter at all.... maybe I can design a way so if they want their own desktop enviroment, they can hit a botton to switch over to the solution you posted.

hahaha

I'm sorry if I introduced something that you hadn't needed before now.
But yes, if it doesn't cause too many problems, I think my idea is a pretty powerful carpc solution.

I actually just emailed them to see if they have a USB controller coming out. I dont want to replace my X-FI to put this thing in. A USB version would be awesome.

I agree that it would be awesome. Unfortunately, I can't imagine a usb port could handle the bandwidth that 3 video signals, and 3 audio signals generate, let alone deal with the virtualization.

Before I forget, I have to address how incredibly awesome your paint job is going to be with all the logos you've mentioned. My jealousy cannot be put into words.

I agree.... I would love to do this, but I cannot give up my audio quality. I am so curious to see how this looks and works in your install.

Im still waiting for permission from Namco :-( , I may modify my install to have logos from companies that have gone into the car, Namco doesnt seem to care for my several requests to get permission.

Well after dreaming about this idea..... I am thinking I may do it...... I have found a motehr board that can use my same SODIMM RAM, and has plus plus features. Only thing is, it is bigger so it may not fit in the location my PC is at now. If that is the case, I may have to redesign my whole PC setup. I am trying to see if this is worth the time, money and what not. Basically I want to see this device can handle things like video games and what not, since all users have to be able to play video games.

The device I mentioned was made with businesses in mind. That isn't to say I don't believe it can't do what you want it to. It probably depends what video games you want to play. I mean it does depend on what computer you have to share, but having 4 people play Crisis seperatley probably wouldn't work. If it was like n64 roms and the like, it should be fine. Also if you haven't snooped around the ncomputing website make sure you watch this video. It shows the applications of it. Depending on what type of screens you want to use, the X350 might be more for you as it allows widescreen and resolutions up to 1440 by 900. The software for ncomputing allows for you to start programs when it "boots" the virtual computer so I believe that with a little ingenuity it should allow us to boot directly into the frontend of choice. I'm looking at this solution because on my planned CarPC, I want to put in a 1.5/2 tb HDD, a ton of movies/ tv shows, and allowing everybody to watch what they want as I do a 3 hr drive every 3 or 4 weeks.

Let me know if you have any questions because I've been researching this as a CarPC solution for some time.

Well I decided to look through all their data sheets.... My PC is staying the way it is. I may be able to have my cake and eat it too. They make a L-Series for class rooms and large bussiness's. Basically it uses the ethernet port on your PC. You then connect it to a ethernet switch, in my case a 7 port, then thats it. I am so glad you brought this up. This is f^*k!ng awesome.... I am really exsited about this. Otehr cool thing is I may be able to get away with running 7 instances of CF, so everyone will have control....

Sorry that I didn't mention the L series but they have improved the product from the last time I looked a couple of months ago. Before the L series couldn't do widescreen but they have obviously "seen the light". I hope that your setup turns up nice. Sorry that I introduced to something that you hadn't need

Thats the thing, I do need this. To be able to have all users run their own instances of the PC is awesome..... There are still bugs to work out, but its cool...... You just gave a reason why CarPCs reign supreme. The units are nice and small and with a simple KMV switch they will be able to switch between single use or combined use mode.......

If I can get this to work, I will have the most monstorous car PC in the world , running 8 seperate instances.

The HiJackZX1 , super upgrade.

I ve decided to make my car super sized, HAHAHAHAHAHAHA (mad scientist laugh). SwiftDeath's idea is just so amazing, these little units are such an awesome idea. Now to use this is my install I have to add so much more equipment and take other equipment out.

First off, I will need 5 of the L-Series boxes from N Computing. I will also need 5 KVM switches so each user can toggle between single and shared mode. Thats no big deal, the cheap KVM switches come with a physical switch to change it over. I am going to mod that switch to the armrest of each passenger. Sound wise, I will have to eliminate I/R, and instead add a standard headphone jack to each arm rest. i also will need to add a small switch so that the user can toggle between single and shared sound. The PS2 port will be fitted with an adapter so I can use a wireless USB keyboard for each passenger. My only issue is that the frequencies may not be different so other users will have an issue. I will get this worked out.

The main problem is the touch screens for each screen..... How will I get those to work on 2 different PCs? I don't want to have a touchscreen for one side, then have to use a separate mouse per user!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe I can make a switch system for that also? I think that would be retarded though! I am harrassing NComputing to death, thankfully they have good customer service, lol.... Maybe there is a way to use them some how.

Won't the KVM (keyboard-video-mouse) take care of that?

There are several usb switches available online so I wouldn't worry too much about that. Such as this. That's just an example googling will lead to a solution. I'm sure.

I look forward to your finished project.

I dont think it will because a KVM only does PS2 mouse and keyboard.... but f#^k!ng wait, your onto something. Maybe I can use an adapter to convert them from USB to PS2 also. I know the software that I use for touchscreen asks if I am using PS2 based screens...... OMFG you guys are on a roll puting ideas in my head.

Why do you need 5 when 1 creates up to 30 pcs. Maybe I missed the point on the need for 5.
