My USB issues are all fixed, I have to run them to the center console because I dont have room on the armrests. Although it looks like they do on the top, under it has a $h!+ load of electronics.

Auto paint suppliers are probably better sources for the really good stuff.
There will probably be a marker on the back to tell you what the material is. Check that out to determine what filler will work.

the usb extender is nice
but only supports usb 1 and then you need like 6 sets of them
i wanted to use it also because my 14m tower is about 50meters from my home away and i got a wifi beam
but with usb 1 it sucks

you can now get USB 2.0 Extenders but they need power sources so its not so uesfull, U can also get LAN video senders which might help with the VGA cable issues, or ar they sorted? Ive read the tread so many times I can never remember exactly which issues have been dealt with

Yes, only one, and on top of that, I am really trying to cut down on cost. Little things I want to save money on because I am getting ready to sink so much into the big items.

The VGA was sorted, I decided to think simple rather then complicated. By simplifying the process, all I had to extend was the DVI-D cable to the rear, which was 20ft. Then from the rear extend one VGA cable per seat to the areas. I ran the cables through the roof, so it was actually easy. I got all VGA and USB for the touch screens up in there. Only thing I need to add is the ethernet cable, which will be for the PC selection, PC power and Stereo audio. I still also have to run the speaker wire and 5 more USB cables. Its all coming together and because I am taking my time and taking apart the car, I can run everything correctly, and easily.
One thing I have been beating myself up over is the rear center console. I am over complicating it big time. I then remembered Kimota's console, it is one big one that stretches from the front to the rear. He drives an RX8. So I started to think, if I do something similar, I can kill the cooling issue. Basically the one thing that makes the console so hard to build is that I have to supply air to the PC under it. Then I realized if I connect the two consoles, the front console will push air to the second easily. That way no complicated air paths, just straight to the PC. Also by doing this, I can comfortably have wires, the few devices, and USB ports all right there. I can even fit the cup holders, DVD rom and what not, easily. Also it will be easier for the fabricator to work with since its straight lines and no all curvy. Anyways, I'm going to sketchup this idea before building anything.

Yes they are individual. The second row use to be a bench in a 40/40 configuration, but because I wanted the main PC there, I took the middle out. It will not extend to the back to much. I am thinking that I should put the 3rd row cup holders at the back of the console. Right now they are only on the right side so the left side passenger has to reach over. I can also fit more under the side panel if I get rid of the cup holders. I'm going to do this very slowly, no rushing this time.

Sounds like you're having a lot of fun with your install. My Turtle is still in the shop, so I haven't had a chance to do anything, except work on the case and some of my temporary cooling issues. Hopefully what I've done fan wise will work until I get a new setup for everything. Saul is gonna order the parts for his TruckPC this week, I believe he said, so I'll be busy when I'm not in Roswell. Good luck with your install!

Wow HiJack,
One crazy install you have going on. I have a 2001 Durango just like yours other than the year model. I'd love to do something to it but the wife drives it and she doesn't know much about PC's, therefore I'm leaving my Alpine DVD Head Unit in it. I must say though that the Durango's have excellent sound acoustics. I have 2 JL Audio 10w6's running off a JL Audio 1000/1 amp and Focal Speakers in the doors for the Mids and Highs and it sounds like a club inside the Durango.
I really like the dash that Nexson did for you, if I drove my Durango I'd consider doing the same but the gas mileage is horrible on mine so I drive a Honda Civic as I have a long drive to work.
I'm all curious about how much you have invested in your install now? From what I've seen going through your work log it looks like a lot. One thing is for certain though, once your done that Durango will be a "One of a Kind".

I have spent about $4000.00.... Alot of it was stuff I didnt use and or tinkered with. With stuff I have actually used, its about $3000.00. I have calculated that I have about $6000.00 more to go. It worth it though, once all this is done I can start on the exterior and engine mods.
Yea the Durango gets bad gas mileage (11 mpg), but one of my investments is the superchips programmer. It has the ability to make the transmission run smoother, idle better, add horse power, torque and best of all MPG. With the programmer you go from 11 mpg to 16 mpg.... thats pretty good for a V8.

I guess you must have the 5.2L engine huh? Mine has the 4.7L and get about 14MPG in town and 17-18 on the Hwy. Never thought about getting a programmer for the transmission, what's something like that run in price?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, its the 4.7, I have. When I read that the 5.2L uses like 12 spark plugs and gets really bad MPG I said h3LLLLL NO. When I say 11 MPG I am going by the heads up display that says 11 MPG. It could be wrong? Back in the day the programmer was $600.00, but now that the truck is older it goes for about $389.00. I am waiting for it to drop alittle bit more and or if gas prices get to high, then i'll buy it.

I don't trust my overhead display that calculates MPG, I think a sensor is bad on mine or something. Even when I reset it I get various results and sometimes it just hangs up on the same reading and never changes. I have 20" Wheels on mine and I filled up and did the calculation manually on a long highway trip and it average about 17MPG. I wish the automakers would make a more efficient engine for larger vehicles I just miss the space of my Durango, but it just kills me to drive it to work going 60 miles one way.

HAHAHAHAH, I guess its bad then because mine is always on 11 mpg. Thats good to know, so my truck may actually do better then I thought. I do love the distance till empty meter, that thing is dead on. Well they are trying to build more efficient SUV, but I don't see the SUV surviving much longer. They are now going to be going with smaller cars, especially Dodge, Chrysler because Fiat bought them up. I'm not sure on Jeep though, I think they may sell that brand off to someone else.
--------------------------------
New Rear Console Idea
In the 2 previous attempts at designing a console i kept trying to incorporate the original arm rest from the second row. I now see that it was a major bad idea and put to many limitations on my design.
Its just too big and bulky, and the mounts are just so hard to work with. Mind you it is very comfortable but it isn't enough to justify the designing nightmare it causes. Ive decided to follow the path of the RX8 center console and make a lid that mimics the front center console lid better.
Its more flat and would be fairly easy to recreate, best of all it destroys the limits I had with the other previous consoles. i am really starting to embrace simplicity.

If it were me doing what you are doing to the Durango, I'd fab my second row seat console however it needed to be to achieve my goals. Then afterward if I were still concerned about the arm rest I might just fab some sort of top with a thin foam cushion and have it upholstered to match the interior.
