Here is the email from DataJack.

Quote:
Hello Carsten:

I'm sorry I didn't see your email before now. It got lost in my spam folder.

We do not use the same network as Sprint. We use an AWS band. I have not acheived the upload speeds you mentioned but I have not had any problem streaming videos or using VOIP phone service in my area in Miami.

If our 3G network is not available in an area, our DataJack accesses the slower Edge network. The HSPA 7.2 network (7.2 Mb theoretically) is going to be in place by the end of the year and next year we're rolling out HSPA+ that will enable download speeds of over 20Mb next year. I can't wait!

One nice thing about our DataJack is the fact that it is also a storage device. I have an 8 Gb micro SD card in mine so I can backup all my files and take them everywhere I go. I love the freedom of such mobility. We also have a Wi-Fi device that the DataJack plugs into. For the same $39.99 a month you can have Wi-Fi in your home or office and mobiltiy too.

I hope you get a chance to try the DataJack. I think it's an amazing product.

Please feel free to contact me any time if you have any questions. Especially now that you're not blocked in my spam folder!

Best Regards,
Bill Richardson

I was wondering about your service. First off, how is your device achieving 5.6 up and 7.2 down? On Sprint, that same 3G service wasnt that fast. Is it something you guys do different? Is there a data cap per month? Sprint imposes a 5G per month limit. Does this device to good on high end multimedia, like Sling Player? On Sprint, it worked ok, but at some points, the picture buffered alot. What network are you using, EDVO Rev. A, or Edge. I know EVDO Rev. A is fast, but I heard EDGE is really slow compared to EVDO Rev. A, so I am curious to see what you guys use. Please get back, this sounds like an awesome deal.

I actually called the support number the have listed on their webpage and spoke with Bill. He was very helpful. He made mention of the contact form, and I told him about this thread. He assured me he would find our emails... Anyway, here's what I got back:

Hello Scooter:

I'm sorry I didn't see your email before now. It got lost in my spam folder.

Unfortunately, we only have regular Internet access in Artesia not high speed 3G. The closest town that has 3G access is El Paso or Lubbock, TX. I'm sorry to say that New Mexico seems to be one of the few states where we have no 3G service. I'm sure that will change in the future so stay tuned. I'm sure we'll be actively opening retail stores there once the 3G network is established.

Best Regards,
Bill Richardson

Does the Data Jack have coverage in Artesia, NM and it's surrounding areas like Carlsbad and Roswell?
What cities in NM does it cover?

Thats cool! What type of car you plan on doing this in?

PS: Never mind, I see your doing it in a Altima. The Altima has a pretty big trunk, so you can easily put 4 more PC units back there, unless your talking about another aspect of my install.

Powered on

Well yesterday I wanted to see if my camera system was connected OK, so I had to activate the run for the PC line, since I made anything thats add on, to that line. I really didn't want anything integrated into the cars electrical because blowing fuses is no fun, plus it makes it harder to track down issues.

Well I flicked the switch and nothing happened, the camera system came on, but the Car PC did nothing. I, of course then remembered that I have a alternator thats cr@pping out so I revved my engine and the Car PC came alive. I was so happy. I was really really happy, but then I started to think about reinstalling everything for the HDD. In the past I did this while in the car because its such a PITA to get the Car PC out. This time I am going to take it out so I can have more stability and less chance of corruption. I may work on that today. I am now starting to feel like I am getting somewhere. Basically I am only going to get the OS back into the system, then my sound card (X-FI), then all the other stuff can be installed when in the car, since all the other devices are heavily integrated into the car now.

Got the PC out, and it was so easy to get everything installed. The PC is running great. When I had my other DVD Rom, it literally caught fire from getting wet, so I threw the DVD Rom away, but with my Sound Blaster Driver CD. Its so hard to get the exact replacement software unless you buy the CD from Creative. Well after searching I found the drivers and installed. I then downloaded the emulators and codecs and thats it. I will now use clonezilla to make a copy of my harddrive. Then once I get CF installed, I will make another clone, just in case. Bad news is that the DVD Rom adapter for my new drive is cr@p. I bought it from China so it didnt work at all. I am now going to order a new one from LogicSupply. I will also test the drive, just in case.

Thumbs up Wow

Yes you are very skilled and experienced. I looked at the pictures throughout your work log and I was floored on how you virtually removed all the interior trim and covers and was able to reinstall it all with no fuss. Your setup looks very OEM and well polished. I wish I could pull off the in-dash look. Great job!

HAHAHAHAHA, thank you, but you haven't seen recent pictures, I still have no interior. Its all taking up my garage and my room. In fact I took even more out, my third row seats are out. All panels also. I had to in order to install all the USB, VGA, Ethernet and other cables for the 6 PC install for the rear. In my case, I put the cart before the horse and now I'm paying the price, lol. Once I start getting the heavy ticket items that have to be integrated into some of my panels, it will slowly go back in. For now I simply have to tell people that walk by, that no, my car wasn't broken into, lol.

As for the dash, I can only take credit for the mounting system for the screen, the fabrication work was done by Nexson, which thankfully lives a city away from me. He will be doing some other work for me also, those projects are:

1) Both side mirrors, replacing mirror with cameras.
2) One pillar needs a IR sensor integrated into it.
3) My dash panel that I hacked to pieces needs to be reset to manufacturer look. I tried to buy a new one but Dodge wanted $300.00 for this small dash piece.
4) My dash top screens, I have the design in my head, he needs to pull it out of my head and do it (hes really good at that)
5) Integrate two 7 inch screen into the third row seat pillars.

Then most of the interior should be done. I still have the middle center console and rear cover for the 6 units, but I decided to make them out of MDF, and vinyl. I am actually building the stuff as we speak, but still have to find a local upholsterer.

I also played around with the DVD rom, and for some reason it now works. Its seems its not my DVD Rom, but the small CMOS battery. Who would have thought that would cause these issues.
