You two are a good team -- that's very professionally done. I'd be proud to drive that.

Yes we are. I try to be very very vocal about the way I want things done. Im good at thinking up the idea and seeing it in my head, but bad on trying to get it out. Thankfully Nexson understands me and is able to make the ideas come true. Thats why he is going to work on all my fiberglass type projects from now on, I now trust him. Also when Nexson has to do something alittle diffrent from what you tell him, he will point out and explain everything in a nice clear manner. I tend to have a very short attention span (due to hyper tension) and I jump subjects, but he managed to keep me focused.
I have already started on moding my 15 inch. I had a dream about how to make a mounting system for the insides. I hope it was a preminition and not a dream. Rather then try to have it all be held from the inside, I will use strategically placed small screws hold in special blocks.
The top dash screens I am going to use erector set type stuff. Im worried though that it will get very hot during the day though.

With the A/C on, you probably won't have an issue with heat. Leaving the car in the sun can be a problem, but I fixed that with tint everywhere but the windshield, and then I got one of the fold-up reflective foil sunscreens. I just pop that in the windshield when I park, and it does two important things: (1) it keeps the interior temperature far lower, and (2) it blocks anyone from seeing in to scout out theft-able stuff.
That same sort of sunscreen would keep the bad guys from easily seeing your custom dash, while it keeps the sun from baking your screens.

Thanx Vinc...... I have to thank Nexson once again, I couldn't have done it.
rdholtz, I'm thinking the casing will help with the cooling.... or maybe I should build with wood and metal, but more wood? I don't think that will be an issue, because people will see that it is tailored for my car and useless to theirs. I'm planing on getting a top notch alarm system... So that will help more.

I Like!
I have to say I totaly agree with rdholtz, you two make a great team. If I ever fulfill the dream of opening my own car modifying place with my best mate, I will fly you two over here to come work for me ! As for security, what you get depends on what gadgets you want, if you want to just upgrade the factory job then the TOAD C4 Cat 1 Upgrade kit (£350 fitted) is pretty good, if u want a Cat 1 system with room for plenty of gadget upgrades start with a CLIFFORD CONCEPT 650 MK2 (£360 fitted). Again TOAD make a good CAT 1 system aswell but from review Ive read clifford are the don. Another thing to bear in mind is CLIFFORD do loads of different systems with slight tweaks both more or less money. If you want to scare even the most hardcore theives, take a look at Gapsecurity.co.uk and there GAP PLATINUM SYSTEM (£999 fitted) from what I can tell its all made up of seperate componenets cherry picked to make a wicked system.
Or u custom build youre own. I know from reading ure thread youre more than a dab hand with the old electronics but bear in mind youre insurance will usually offer a good discount with a 3rd part alarm, but only if its a thatcham approved alarm fitted by an approved professional!
Cheers

You know what though, that is actually my dream too. i want to open a store like MP3Car.com, but also wanted to open a shop that people can physically bring their car too. I have actually already bought the domain, CarPCGear.com.... maybe some day i'll win the lottery and open it up, hehe.
The alarm I was looking at is called RS-1000 OLED: http://www.autopageusa.com/t_inside....5-ebe9de1a12be, I like this system because of its autostart, 4-6 AUX, and 1 mile range. Seems to have alot of other goodies too.

Thats pretty cool actaully, Ive seen kits like that ob ebay and they look pretty sweet. Shame its not thatcham approved, so no insurance discount there, also it pages the remote not texts a number, but if ure gonna be around 1 mile from youre car most of the time I guess youre ok.
I remember about 7 months ago my freind bought a 1999ish fiesta si (were all 18/19 so insurance is crap on anything, my 1.0l yaris is costing 1200 under my name, but thats going soon for a new car hopefully, soon to grace the pages of Mp3 Car) and we fitted a similar alarm system, It was a pain to do but so much fun, we also had to fit central locking and remote locking lol. It took friday night working till about 3am, then till 12 lunch saturday, (by this time alarm and one side was done), then again from 9pm saturdat till about 1am sunday, it was soo worth it and taught me alot.
Wats the price on that beast? (if you dont mind me asking )

On EBAY it goes for 188.88 which includes shipping. I mainly bought it because i have the auto window roll up feature, and it can also roll down via 2 modules. It seems to have every sensor imaginable. I also liked the auto start and disable feature. I also like that it also have a trunk open button, I intend to upgrade my lift gate to a power lift gate. I also want to be able to do things like power on the PC without having to turn on the truck. I know it cant call me, but i am never far from my car, and if I am any farther i most likely wont be able to do anything in time anyways. By the time i get there the car may be damaged /gone. I did want to get a Ravelco, which has never been defeated, but then I cant have autostart.
On a side note, Ive decided to rethink my complicated camera system. Instead of have it intergrated into my blinker system, I decided to use the controls that will be useless when I take off the mirrors. The buttons are one toggle switch that toggles to left, off and right. If I really need to zoom to a specific camera I can do it manually with this button. I also have 3 handheld remotes that are now useless since I have upgraded to touchscreens on all screens. I plan to take one appart and soder it to the directional pad for the mirrors. Up will be to turn volume up, down will be to turn volume down and I have not figured out what left and right will do yet.
I had a dream on how to finish off my 15 inch touch screen mod. Rather then try to have the 2 back pieces try to connect to each other, I am instead going to make a support bracket out of wood that is made to hold the screen in place then the front and back screw to that piece. There will be extra screws, but I will use low profile screws that should hide them. I am also going to try find like little rubber covers for the screw heads. I still have to figure out how to route all the extra cables though.

damn, now i see the appeal of a much bigger vehicle, there is plent you can add and change, also the space for a really great audio intall is there. My new is (hopefully) a 2000 1.6 Hyundai Coupe, its three years older than my current car (03 Yaris) but bigger, and as standard has around 115bhp which is good from a 1.6 and there are plenty o things to be done.
Youre rear seat 15" screen sounds realy cool, and as for the no mirrors mod, that is just awesome , can wait for more pics.

Which Hyundai are you going for? The Accent? Its funny because I also have a 05 Ford Focus, it was 2 small to haul two large and two small dogs around. That car went to my parents since their car died, to bad I'm still making payments on, I would be so much closer to finishing my truck , lol. I also use to have a 84 Porsche and i vowed to never go big. I then had it donated to a school, the thing kept breaking down and it sucked up more money then my PC install. When the control arms went and they said it was $700.00 per side, I said h3ll no, to the school you go. Their turning it into a track car. I then got a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a I6 and was so unhappy with it. My dogs loved it, but I hated the car. Slow pick up, and couldn't do evasive maneuvers in it. Thankfully the engine imploded (dont ask), and the dealer ship, after a long legal battle, took the car back and refunded me at least part of the money. I then bought this car and have been happy since. The dogs love this one even more because the windows are bigger and they can stick their heads out. Also the car is very fast, easy to guide, and plain out scary on the road.

going for the Coupe, i think in the states its called a Tiburion. Im 18 and have 3 cars on and off, at the moment im driving 3 different ones. My everyday car is an '03 yaris, 1.01l, its soo nippy its great fun, but crap crap handling. then about 2 months ago when insurance came up for renewal my dad suggested he gave me his 2.0l Saab 95 TURBO estate automatic, cause insurance was quite cheap (2001 car, and know one wants turbo petrols so reall low value), after about 4 weeks, I went round a corner and saw a rabbit in the road, instead of jusr unning it over i tried to avoid it, skidded and hit the curb, it needed new front a rear suspension struts, cuase it was my fualt i paid to have the work done and gave the car back to my dad as it just drinking so much fuel 17mpg in town. Seeing as my job is computer support and i deal with allot of local businesses down driving is all i do so i went back to the yaris. But i still hate the car. So I talked through with my dad and he wanted me to go halves on a newer car like a '06 civic Diesel. But instead of spending nearly 3k to own half a car, he agreed I could buy a cheaper car and own it on my own, so thus the coupe, a mate is selling one in really really good nick for £800, needs new tyre's, seems like a great excuse to buy alloys and some toyo tires . My rents are moving to france together, next year but my mums gone in advance to find a nice old house to do up, shes bought a peugot 407 2.0L TDI SW top spec and im insured on that and drive it when ever im ther, like now lol. Im driving the Yaris but still insured on saab till end of next month. Lots of moeny spent on insurance by now.
Long cut of it, were selling yaris and saab, mums keeping her new pug, im buying the coupe and will drive my dad places, and if he ever needs to go anywhere when im busy, hell drive my mums classic DS.
Down from 4 to 3 lol.
Long post hey! So yeah had expereince of a big estate was nice, especially the saab,. that thing was super quick, turbo petrol with an sport autmatic it was really really really fast.
How are the top screens going?

I actually like the Tiburon better, that will be hot with a carpc. I hate all their other cars, they do nothing but copy things from other cars and they dont look good.
On a side note, I bought new RAM, turns out my MoBo can handle 4 GB, not only 2 GB. The PC now finally runs, and runs so fast it isnt even funny. I upgraded to a 1.9 GHZ Turion X2 processor also. I installed the 7.1 surround sound card and I didnt think I would notice the diffrenece, well I do, itsssss wayyyyyyyyyy better pumping out of 7 speakers. I mean I was blown away, and its so loud my ears are still ringing. If you have a PCI left open I reccommend upgrading to a X-Fi Xtreme Gamer.
The PC is finally working good, everything works except one 7 port USB HUB. Only one port works on it. Also the web cam, and Tuner USB card will not work on the hub. If I plug into other hubs the devices work. I think maybe it is being powered wrong. I will have to redo that. It requires though the removal of the passenger seat again! Tommorrow I will work on getting that HUB up and configuring and updating all software, which includes CF. I still also have to tune the soundcard, in CF when I use HD Radio or XM i get a bad echo feedback, but if I open the SB console, it goes away, odd!!!!

They do make a USB version of X-Fi, but I dont know if its any good.
Ok here is the update on the screen, I posted in another thread and forgot to put it into this one so here it is:
Ok, today I decided to tackle the 15" inch touchscreen upgrade issue. My VGA screen was non touch, and I wanted it to be touch to eliminate using the hand mouses. The issue was that the touch panel was too large for the mounting system in the casing. So I took my new Dremel and shaved everything out. Here is step by step what I have done.
First I took plastic that is the same thickness as the glass touch screen panel and melted them to the inside frame. This keeps the glass from moving around.

I then took my Dremel and cut little blocks that would wedge the LCD into place ontop of the glass panel. The wood blocks also have a over hang which hugs the LCD panel to the glass so it does not wobble or shift. I then installed and its all done.

Here it is done.

The way it works is the blocks will get screwed to the frame, then the back piece also get screwed to the blocks, creating a support and way to hold everything into place. There will be more screws needed, but they will be small and not to noticable.
Only thing left is for the screen to go to NEXSON to have that gap in the front filled, and the relocation of the buttons to the base of the screen. Funny thing is, I started this project and actually gave up. What happened was my porch has an inner and outer door that lock on their own. You have to use a key to get in and out. While trying to get my dog I threw my keys in the house and slammed the door. This caused me to be locked out. Since I was trapped, I had no choice but to finish the project. I guess I have to give myself more credit and stop thinking I will destroy everything.
Idea was killed due to weight issues and design limitations.
