thanks pepsi.
Luckily (my gf) found the cable. Crikey I thought I was screwed.
This weekend:
1) Wiring of POWER-ON-LINE (Lan) - as described above, link a relay to the network cable turn on.
2) I've found cleaner mounts for the relays. Plugins with wires, get them at a decent electrics store. Saves wiring directly to relay which is a bit messay. Will get these for the 2x relays in the box.
3) General wiring of car. Moved USB HUB to dashboard, as the cable I got goes that way, and most of the stuff is in the dash anyway - touchscreenUSB/GPS/Radio/Bluetooth/etc
4) The only large purchase left now is Centrafuse. Oh, that and the $600 yearly car registration due this month. F$#^!!!!!
Final Pics of the Box/Install - will post these this weekend, the box is looking fairly nice, mostly wired, looking good.
Strangely my biggest challenge this week is getting an extra 10 days trial from centrafuse. The bummer being, you give them your code from your trial, and they give you a key to extend. But the code you give them changes on reboot, and since I'm in Australia, I can't let my EEEPC reboot for over 24 hours plus. Not hard normally, but with a couple of troublesome ferrets in the house it might get interesting :P Most nights, somehow they manage to pull out the AC adapter ehh little ....somethings. Will store the EEEPC more safely tonight, and see how it goes.

Some more work on the box tonight.
As you can see, two relays. One to turn on the general power, and the other to switch on the notebook using the network card.
Note: The last picture shows the outside of the box. It is square, just the angle I took the photo at makes it look a bit ajar

Thanks
To be clear - I'm not using an AC Adapter, I'm using a 12v Car Adapter for EEEPC. You can get off Ebay cheap. It does not connect in any way to the WOL loopback.
Heres how it goes: first relay switches on the main power in the box. This gives power to the fans, the 12v EEEPC car adapter, and power to the relay which controls the WOL Loopback.
When the relay for the loopback gets power, it just connects the WOL wires which turn on the EEEPC.
Feel free to ask any more questions. I can post a diagram if you like - I actually had to ask my old man how to wire the relays lol

Case is about 2.5 CD's wide+tall, 3/4 CD deep. Somehow looks bigger in the picture.
Did nothing to the EEEPC, I want to be able to take it out easily and use as a normal PC if needed. No software config was necessary either. The WOL cable just works as is, plugged into the network port.

I believe Wake-On-LAN usually has to be enabled in the BIOS setup. Perhaps it's built in as standard on the Eee, or it's enabled at the factory.

Standard on EEEPC I think. Theres no options in the BIOS I could see, just works.

Bought Centrafuse just now, the Australian version. I believe it is the best carpc interface solution (yes it is expensive, but you pay for what you get), plus its the only one with AU maps, so it was an easy decision for me.
I believe more people should give priority to purchasing their software, so it does'nt go the way of StreetDeck, etc. When you think about it, how many people would buy this software in a month? And they have to pay all the people in the company. I really wonder how such businesses stay afloat.
I will be updating this page, plus my new page at Centrafuse forums:
http://forums.fluxmedia.net/project-...pc-photos.html
I certainly won't be leaving here, but thanks to everyone for your assistance so far

im really surprised that no one uses it as a car pc. the eee pc beats any via board out there for the price, size, and portability.
and thats for the cd shot. keep those pictures rolling =)

I think we'll see more EEECARPCs in the future.
I'm thinking my Version 2 will be using the same EEEPC, stripped of the case/screen make the whole thing alot simpler and smaller.

OK so one final question, if i just want to power the ee pc nothing else, how does it wire up, and yes please can u post a diagram and maybe a picture? Im gonna use the remote, of the Head Unit rather than ignition cause I will only want it on when Head unit is one, same as amp and sub.
Cheers for all youre help

heres the diagram showing how i've set mine up to turn on the EEEPC.
if your using the head unit remote on lead (the one which tells the amp to turn on, im guessing?) i'm not sure if this gives a constant 12v when head unit on, or just a momentary blip of 12v. if its just a blip, you'd need an additional relay setup to convert that blip to a constant on which is more complicated. the www.the12volt.com site has details on this setup (Pulsed to Steady Output) here http://www.the12volt.com/relays/page5.asp#pts
disclaimer: i've taken all care to make sure this diagram is correct, but its 9am so if this blows up your system, tells your girlfriend her bum looks big in those pants, and burns your cookies, it ain't my fault but yeah im sure its correct.

Oh okay so the power adapter is always plugged into the EEEPC, the Wake on Lan just tells the pc to start up! I get it now lol, that pulsed to steady looks ok(ish) I will give this ago when my EEE arrives
