I guess I'll find out this weekend, hopefully I won't have the same problem. Thanks for the info!

Power switch relay

I just connected a regular Bosch auto relay to my power switch after I realized that if I press and hold down the power button of my eee pc, it has no problems starting up and staying on. I read others have just jammed their buttons mechanically in their battery-less old laptops so that it turns on when it receives AC power.

I connected the leads from my laptop's power switch contacts to pins 30 and 87 of the relay. I had soldered a headphone jack for this.

Then I connected 86 to an ignition-switched fuse line and 85 to ground.

Not as elegant as a momentary switch, but it's cheap, compact, and works!

Okay. I GOT to know how this is turning out.

Other than you using an Eee 900 (instead of a 700 with eeectl or a 1000), I have the same ideas.

I am also running EEE PC in my Camry. I hacked the power button in my EEE 900A. The power button is connected to a momentary relay. When I turn on the engine, relay will make a short to turn on the pc. EEE PC will go into standby mode 1 minute after shut the car engine. It take no time for eee pc to return to gps/music mode when you turn on the engine the next morning. I do have a problem, may be you can help me. I press the power button but the eee pc wont turn on if the lid is closed. If I open the lid half way through, I can turn it on with power button or a short. In this case, I have to leave the eee pc half way open in my glove box. Any idea workaround??

Take the magnet for the screen switch out of the screen surround.

Take the LCD bezel apart. Check this page for information on its location.
