2004 Mitsubishi Magna VR Car PC

I sold my 2000 Mitsubishi Verada auto a few weeks ago, and bought a 2004 Magna VR Limited Edition in Manual, and I'm loving it! Handling is much better thanks to upgrades in the later model, as well as the better suspension as part of the Limited Edition pack.

Only modification that the car had was a different Mitsubishi stereo than stock, along with a 4-disc stacker. And they both sucked, worst sound system I've heard in quite a while.

Of course this is to be replaced with a Car PC! Most of my old setup will go into the new car (PC, amp, Powermate, OBD-II connector), but a new screen is in order.

I decided to go with the same screen as was in my previous setup: a Lilliput EBY-701. I know it's not the best screen available right now, but it's the only one that I know will fit. Was cheap too, less than $230 on eBay!

This will be my first fabrication job (bought my old screen pre-fabbed into a piece I could swap into my old car) and I'm looking forward to giving it a go!

I'm adding a headunit into my setup this time for radio and bluetooth handsfree functions. I know I could do these things with the Car PC, but I will work all that out at a later stage. ATM the headunit I bought (a Sony) has replaced the stock garbage, and things are already sounding MUCH better!! The stock speakers are pretty good (splits at the front, 6x9s at the back), let down by a crappy stock HU.

Updates to come as the fabrication begins!

Looks like you have a nice space for that screen. Where will the headunit go -- down under the climate controls?

Yeah my thinking is to mount it behind the door that you can see below the climate, but I'm not sure if the compartment is deep enough. Need to buy a spare one of those compartments and experiment

Maybe you could just pull off the bezel and see what lies back there. It would be a sad thing to buy the unit and find out you don't really need it.

Oh I've pulled it out, and to have any hope of fitting a HU in it I would have to cut it up.

Woot!! The latest version of the graphics drivers for my Intel D201GLY motherboard supports native output to 800x480 at 16-bit colour to the EBY-701, no more power strip necessary!

Hey mate, was really easy to remove.

First pull up the centre console strip thing (the bit with the window switches and cup holders). Then pull out the compartment below the climate control (it's tight, you'll have to pull bloody hard!). After that pull the stereo surround out by gripping just above the vents and below the climate controls. You'll need to disconnect the air sensor, hazard cable and climate cables. Then unscrew the four screws holding the DIN bracket in (two top two bottom) and disconnect the wiring harness from the stereo.

Hope that helps!

I really need to update this thread with my progress, since the Car PC and new screen is fabed in

See thats why I love the EBY701. It is so easy to achieve a OEM look with that screen. Ride looks hot!

Having trouble removing head unit

Hi,

I am having trouble removing the head unit as well.

I'm new to this and don't get the part: "unscrew the four screws holding the DIN bracket in (two top two bottom)"

There are no screws to unscrew and whats a DIN bracket?

And is there any way of just removing the CD player instead of the whole unit?

Thanks for your help :]
