New truck, CarPC overhaul

Well I haven't really been around this forum in a while and I see that I've missed a lot but the past year or so life got really busy and I went through a couple cars (not my fault) but now I have found one I want to stick with. So here we go...

I did a complete physical overhaul on the PC and will be doing a complete OS overhaul once I finish acquiring parts, finalise the hardware, and integrate everything together. This includes the ECU (ODB-II), car alarm, carpc, and anything else that I might want to throw in there (I cant give everything away up front ).

Truck: '97 GMC Suburban K2500
Front End: Centrafuse v2 Nav
OS: Windows 7 RC1 Build 7100
Motherboard: Intel BLKDG45FC
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
Memory: 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 800
HDD-1: 200GB 2.5in SATA II (3Gbs)
HDD-2: None
PSU: M2-ATX 160W Intelligent DC-DC PSU
Sound Card: Integrated
Screen: New Lilliput 8'' Wide screen
Car/Accessory Control: None
Satellite Radio: None
HD Radio: None
WiFi: RangeMax Wireless N USB 2.0 Adapter
EVDO: LG Dare (Verizon Wireless) over Bluetooth
OBD: OBD-II (Future purchase)
GPS: BU-353 Weather-proof GPS Receiver

--> Website link with complete info and pictures <--

The truck itself

More updates to come...

I love the idea of putting the CarPC on the back door. Hate your placement of antennas though. Looks bad. Also take the dash out and properly put the screen in, so it looks like it should be there. If you dont know how to, have some one like Nexson do it. i tried to do mine and sent it to him, he did a nice job. http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/fabr...-work-log.html I ran my antenna to the top middle of the windshield and fed the wire through the rubber gasket. Also the BU-353 doesnt really have to go on the top... you can actually hide it in a panel on the inside of the car. I have mine behind plastic near the rear, ontop of the rear A/C system.

As far as front ends, just download them both and try them. I know CF has a 30 day trial. i have CF and prefer it, because of its multi screen capabilites (I have 5 on my install).

Thanks for the input, as for the antennas I had to get on top of my truck to get that picture and they can not be seen from anywhere else. plus i tested the antenna in other places and it really dose get a better signal outside (10-15 sats instead of 5-8). I know the screen looks bad my strength is in electronics and software not fabrication so when i get the money it will be professionally installed.

Any input on a front end?

Try them both.... i use CF.... Cf also has more support. SD died and they are trying to bring it back, but i doubt it will even come close to CF in features.

No, I haven't made one yet, I'm waiting to finish the hardware first.

The screen doesnt look all that bad just needs a little more work to clean it up>Believe me its not too hard at all just a bit time consuming. Check out what I did with the same bezel and it was my FIRST time. This is what i started with:
This is what I ended up with. I have been contemplating a carpc but I dont know squat about it.
