I'm gonna go a little off topic for a sec. I just found out Artesia's main ISP runs the whole city off one leased FiOS line from Lubbock. At least no I know why we never get the speed we pay for... They're supposed to change it soon, or so I hear. Rumors are a pain, aren't they?
Back on topic, my car's exhaust apparently isn't done yet, so when it is, I'll post the pix, because by then, I should have everything in and reassembled. I also got my new WiFi card in yesterday( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833166022
It works with the external antenna I have on the roof of my car, so that works for me. I have a busy week ahead and an even busier weekend(Senior Banquet-I'm a sophomore, but they need my assistance for tech support -and a big meeting with the college people in Roswell-I take college prep classes there during the summer-and I'm going to LANL[Los Alamos National Labs] for a Super Computer Challenge presentation)
Believe me now? I'm killing myself here(and I love it! Is something wrong with me? ), but I can only drop out of one(the Super Computer Challenge) but not until next year... so, yeah...
I'm going to sleep now, I feel like holy ****
Maybe new BS tomorrow...

Yea, its funny..... Right now I'm at 16mbps with comcast, but in other countries like Japan, they offer 61mbps and up. When it comes to high speed access we are kinda behind....
We'll dont kill yourself, lol, i'm only 29 and I feel like im 90. All because I like to take on more then I can chew. Now I have learned my lesson and try to pace myself.

You were at Kirtland Central? WOW... (I looked at the powerpoint... Now I know your name! *evil laugh* ) Ok, that's pretty cool. Tech has come a long way... Were y'all finalists; did you win anything? I'll send you a link with my team's stuff, if I don't get the boot first. I was threatened with being kicked today, right at the end, too. I'm so at my team I wanna hurt them all. But I won't because I can't afford bail.

I have taken on more than I can chew, it seems. But I like it, because it presents me with a challenge. It's also difficult, since my CarPC eats up any free time that I should/could spend on:
Homework
Cleaning the house(my mother's always on my case about this one...)
You get the picture.
But I also attribute my lack of focus to my self-diagnosed ADD But my parents agree with me, even though I can be completely focus when I want... [/ramble]
I'm also working on making some sort of button panel for my CarPC and someway to have quick-connect so it takes 2 seconds to remove and replace it.
Lot of BS in two posts, huh?

The Molex connector was intended to do that. The matching plug is available at Radio Shack. I'd send you the one I bought, but it's packed up somewhere, and effectively lost for a while.

That's not BS, that's real life. It's your worklog, and you get to say whatever you want. That "BS" helps us know you better . . .

I think I lost the Molex connector you had on the case, rdholtz. It's cool, though, because I'm gonna use the 9-pin connectors, rather than the 12-pin. I wrote the item numbers down from RadioShack.com. I'm planning on picking them up along with some push-buttons for a reset switch, and a power switch, along with power and HDD LEDs.I'm gonna wire them up on CAT5e cable, since I have some extra laying around and it has been proven to work in this type of application.
Comments?

The hole in the case was cut for the 12-pin Molex, and I believe the 9-pin is smaller, so it would leave a gap. I didn't need 12 pins, but I figured I might come up with a need later, and the difference in price was insignificant.
One of the uses I had for the lines going through the Molex connector was all the switches and indicator lights: I planned to put those in the dash or in a dash-mounted plate so there would be only power, USB cables and the Molex cable going to the case. I didn't want to reach for the case to turn the system on.
When you use Cat5e cable, it's better to use Cat5e extension cable. The regular cable is solid wire, where the extension version is stranded, so it's more flexible and less likely to stress fracture in a mobile application. Cat5e extension cables go for $.50 a foot at our store; we keep them right up by the register as cheap impulse purchase items, along with power cables and used (but still good) mice, keyboards, etc.
Another good source of wire is older parallel printer cables. The newer ones use smaller wire, but some early ones used fat cables with pretty good gauge stranded wire. A lot of them get thrown out in the transition to USB, so computer stores often have old ones laying around, orphaned. They're generally 6-foot cables, but you'll find 10-foot ones, too.
You can buy those buttons and lights, or you can pull them from an old dead case, and they'll even have usable marked motherboard connectors. If you buy your miscellaneous parts from the local computer store (and probably pay a little more for them), it's amazing what they may just give you that comes in handy -- like old cases and dead power supplies that have good switches and connectors and very nice raw materials. The ATX cable and the power plug both came from dead power supplies, as did the pattern for ventilation holes in your case. The material for the top and the hard drive brackets came from dead case parts, and many of the fasteners came from old cases. I think the only things I bought were the Molex connector and some wire routing clips.
I like to dig through old cases because I get ideas on how others build things; there are some really ingenious fastening systems used. I may put some hard drive "doors" in the bottom of my new chassis, using power supply parts that have a lip preformed just the way I need it.
I learn a lot from those who engineered before me, and from the people who built carPCs before me, and sometimes I can pass on what I learn.

I'd say you come out of this pretty well: you get to go and see all the cool stuff, and you don't have to participate in all the foolishness. It's like going to a trade show and not having to sit through the hype. Big win.

Yeah there's a bunch of neat crap to check out there. The whole Super Computing part of it is a little boring however. And they were using OLD OLD equipment when I went. We're talking like Wyse terminals and stuff during the classes and things. blah.

OK, I went to RadioShack, and got:
2x Red LEDs
2x Green LEDs
1x Male 9-pin Molex connector
1x Female 9-pin Molex connector
(Which of these should I use?)
1x 2-way momentary-on toggle(spring-loaded center off)-Power and Reset
4x push-button toggles(normal-off)-Power and Reset

And to add to that win, one of the people from my "team" can't go, so I get to take my friend Dakota with me!(he's not a member of the forums) So I guess that equals an EPIC WIN for me.
I also learned that the "fail"s in that e-mail are referring to failblog.org(which we frequented when we met up for programming, etc.)

Yeah, but that was back in 1999 or so.

Man it was still ancient by '99s standards.
