Well, there's a dumpster, but it's not involved; I don't go in there. The scrap heap is just a dusty stack of obsolete machines and a big wooden box of miscellaneous -- and similarly dusty -- obsolete parts. Pieces our company can use or sell are already removed.

I just have to watch the pile and get stuff I want; I usually go out there during lunch and investigate, then pull the little pieces I want after work. I've gotten mostly electrical/electronic parts -- like fans, connectors and snakeskin -- plus some fasteners and a few pretty nice pieces of aluminum. There's almost no scrap value to the things I take, but it's surprising what I'd have to pay if I went and bought them.

When the pile grows to a reasonable size, one of our local truckers comes in and hauls it off to the recyclers. The pile has grown recently, and I suspect it will be gone tomorrow morning. So, no pix.

I will try to upload some pix of my wiring tonight, but I have a book report and research paper I need to finish, so it may not happen.

If it's not one thing, it's another! My car started misfiring today. I should have had plugs and stuff checked when I had the front main seal/water pump/timing belt adjust/etc. all done... Fortunately, I called my dad, and he said we could check all that and probably fix my exhaust Saturday when I get back from my college classes.

I've been off for a while, what with Google and Firefox telling me the forums were compromised and such. The filter here at the school is calling "Runtime error"s and I'm LMAO, but I still can't get through too restricted sites. I thought that since I frequent this site so much that it would have been blocked a long time ago, but it must not bandwidth intensive enough to care about. I just wish they would unblock XMRadio.com so I wouldn't sit in silence this whole period. I set up a server to relay it from my computer at home; we'll see how long that lasts...

I'm going to try to take some pictures tonight. Research papers FTL...

Got some fiberglassing done on my voltage meter. Almost done fabricating it into my A pillar. It looks good now, I just need to sand out some rough spots and paint bubbles. I should have it installed tomorrow sometime. I still have one resesarch paper left to do, but it's not due for a few weeks, so I'm doing it piece by little piece.

I decided to tune my stereo system in with an RTA, had it tuned nicely, but when my dad and I replaced my spark plugs and spark plug wires yesterday (we didn't get to the exhaust leak because we forgot to have AutoZone order the parts... ) I unhooked the batteries(just to be safe) and it cleared the settings on my head unit. When I started the car back up, I cranked the stereo, and blew my two 8" subs...

Now, I've created a new project for myself. I am going to fiberglass a box for a 15" sub or see if Saul will build me one from MDF. I'm tired of blowing subs because I don't have the time to build one, or the money to buy one pre-made.

Well, the 15" was given to me by a friend because it was too big for his car, but it's trash anyway. The voice coil is off-center. I'm planning on just hooking my 10" up tonight so I'll at least have a little decent bass. One can only stand so much crackly bass.

Research paper continues. I'm supposed to be sorting my way through a year's worth of eSchool News issues right now. Also, I don't think they would like it if they knew I could get to XM Radio and stream BPM and my other favorite stations at will... Man, I love being a hacker!

Getting ready to tune my stereo back in. Got an RTA for my iPhone. I'm almost done with the fiberglassing, I'm still trying to sand out some rough spots.

USB
Since I have my in-dash USB hub powered now, I want to add two ports into the center console where the ashtray used to lock in. So, I would need two of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tchlink:top:en but that seems kinda high priced for just one.
How have you all done your in-dash USB ports?

Yeah, nearly $20 with shipping is sneaking up on outrageous for a couple of USB ports, isn't it? Here's another option that costs about the same, and here's another one from PC Cables.com that's about $14 shipped; I've done business with PC Cables for years, and they're very, very good people.

You asked how we're doing our in-dash ports. I plan to build a small panel that fits under my head unit, and it will contain switches and indicator LEDs plus the five-port face of a small powered hub (yep, five ports is overkill).

Well, I remember what has been said of overkill. I'll try to get pix of the gauge up tomorrow. On that note though, I need to find an LED bulb that fits AutoZone's SunPro gauges. I can't tell what the size is. The bulb says 14V3W, and that's it. And also, currently, my LED gauge will show 14.5VDC while the analog that I fiberglassed only shows around 12VDC. That's like a 2, almost 3VDC difference. What could cause that?

rdholtz, thanks for dropping the hint on PCCables.com. I just placed an order for the item you linked to. Today I am going to try to figure out how to wire up my tachometer. We'll see how that goes...

The setup process is the same as it has always been, but the main screen is what we have all expected. The animations are a little choppy on this test machine, but I think they will be smoother once it's installed on a dedicated computer. This test unit has Firefox, Centrafuse 3, M$ Word, and TweetDeck open, so that slows things down. Overall, a good first impression here. Well worth $80. I'm ordering it when I get home tonight!

Yea, the transistions will most def hurt a system that isnt made to handle it. Thats an easy fix though, go into options and turn them off.

It is worth the $80.00. I am glad that Flux came up with a lower price. I just hate Destinator, but I plan to upgrade to Garmin PC, I want that online traffic routing.
