Not technically true, the iPhone does support flash, the plugins already exist, that how they can be viewed on the youtube app, its merely that it has been disabled in the browser.
If you watch this, it gives you an indication of how easily flash support 'could' be added

Now that is an awesome tool. Thanks for the tip, infamous_t!
Unfortunately, I couldn't get it to work on bugbyte's posted flash video. I'll try it the next time I run into a flash video. It may just be the way bugbyte's video is embedded.

By way of unhijacking bugbyte's thread, the video he posted was great. I will have to try some of those apps. Unfortunately, I cannot keep my iPhone jailbroken because it might interfere with my legitimate iPhone App Store submissions. (I realize I'm being a little paranoid, but you just never know with Apple.)
BTW, 3.0 introduces a means of controlling external devices from your iPhone! Check it out: http://gizmodo.com/5171796/iphone-30...u-need-to-know

I did not read all 12 pages of this post so I dont know if it has been discussed before, but I will tell you this. Avoid iphone like the plague. It is nowhere near as powerful as other devices around. At the end of the day the iphone is a piece of crap surrounded by a bunch of hype.
Fact is phones more powerful than the latest iphone was around before the release of the first iphone. Any of the new smartphones by HTC will blow the iphone to pieces.
I may not know a lot about carpc's but I'm something of an expert when it comes to smart phones. Hell the smart phone is the reason I don't have a carpc yet.
Proof -
This is a 5 part video I made to show the power of a real smart phone. to see the true power watch all 5 parts. Also keep in mind the phone I used in this video was out before the release of the first iphone and it is still better than the newest iphone out.
BTW I no longer have the phone I use tho make this video. Upgraded to the touch pro about 8 months ago. The touch pro is about 3 times more powerful than the phone used in this video (and ages ahead of the current iphone)

Well I made a very long detailed video backing up all my points. If you choose to not watch the video, ignore everything and jump on the iphone hype wagon then thats fine, but that does not change the facts.

At the end of the day, it's not what you or I think, it's what the millions of people buying phones thinks:

The iPhone is a neat gadget phone... that's about it. Business functionality wise, it's crap. Would be good for a Car thing tho I guess... unless you want good ms exchange support.

I don't hate apple. I own a 80gig ipod. I'm speaking based on facts. I do a lot of research on smart phones. I always like to have the latest and best smart phone. I was planning to buy an iphone when it came out because I thought it was going to be great due to all the hype. I did my research and found out it was crap and did not waste my time with it.
On the other hand tho it sounds like your an apple fanboy. I made a 40 min video showing in detail why the iphone is no where near as advanced as other things around, you chose to not watch the video and reply with negative comments. thats what fanboys do.
I wont mind if you watch the video and replied based on that, but you didn't. its a 40 minute long video showing lots of detailed features yet you reply 10 minutes after I make the post with negative comments.

Hmmm... I've been developing applications for mobile devices for quite a while now (six years or so), so I'm pretty sure I know what else is out there. True, I carry an iPhone mostly because it is my test device and I want to leverage Apple's hype machine to sell my apps, but I kind of like the simple, elegant design. It's also plenty powerful (it's essentially OS X underneath it all) for the things most people need it to do. Sure, I could do more on another platform, but I don't think most people need it to do more (myself included).
I think, though, the point of this thread isn't so much replacing the carpc with the iPhone, but rather replacing the carpc with a mobile device. CarPC hobbyists, if they choose to go the mobile platform route, will probably want a hardware agnostic solution. I think bugbyte started with iPhone simply because he's a bit of an Apple junky. If you (lasteclispe) had started this thread, I suppose you would have suggested using the Sprint Mobile something or another. Then some troll would write in with "proof" that your chosen platform was cr@p. And they would have missed the point of your post as well.
We could keep the thread about mobile platforms in general, but as a practical matter, when you want to solve implementation problems, you have to pick something, anything, just to see what those problems are. If you want to pick a different platform, then start your own thread and leave us ignorant iPhone hackers to wallow in our backwater implementation.

Weren't you the one who began his vitriol with "I did not read all 12 pages of this post ..." Do you not see the hypocrisy in this?! And before you start calling me names, I did try to watch your posted videos. I tried. I really did.
To the admin: I don't know how they moderate the forums on this site, but I would vote for this whole tangent to be removed (including this message) as it is completely irrelevant to the thread. I'll do my part by not responding any more, but that last one was just too much to ignore.
