Your work on the iBug was one of the projects that got me started. There's an amazing wealth of information available here; the greatest challenge is to sift through it and not miss much.
I agree that the current phones aren't ready to completely replace the carPC, but they're very close. Phones, UMPCs and netbooks/minitablets are just about at a common point in capabilities, and I expect to see phones with external video soon. Bluetooth printing is already possible, so there's not a whole lot separating the categories any more.
With phone manufacturers (except Apple) going to a universal charging port, perhaps they'll use it to bring some innovative docking solutions, external video, plug-and-play printing, external keyboards, and so on.
The phone is becoming our personal communicator that links to our other systems and carries our information. I suppose that, eventually, all that stuff will be on a chip implanted on us somewhere. In the meantime, I just want to plug in my phone and have it work magic.
