Test Progress

While installing the motherboard drivers it failed with the Realtek LAN Driver and Media Graphics but not sure about that because I can still access the internet with no problems..strange. I never had driver installation failure before while setting up a new system but it appears that things are still fine. The Device Manager didn't indicate any hardware problems.

I am going to say that my Windows 7 RC and Motherboard drivers installation were successful.

Done for Now

Well I am done for now. I will continue tomorrow with setting up other software. I created this post on my new Intel Mini ITX system.

  • Intel D945GCLF2D Mini ITX motherboard
  • PSU
  • Ethernet cable
  • 2GB DDR2 Memory module
  • 32GB SSD (via SATA connection)
  • Power Switch
  • Dual USB to Motherboard header cable
  • PS/2 Mouse & Keyboard
  • LCD VGA Monitor
  • Audio out
  • DVD-RW/ROM (via SATA connection)

The system booted so fast I missed the F2 prompt for me to access the BIOS. Once I got to the BIOS I set it up to boot from USB because I created a Windows 7 RC bootable USB. It successfully booted using the Windows 7 USB and I was able to proceed with the install.

So that's as far as I got for now. I will start working with installing motherboard drivers and all the other driver installation drama that's involved with any new system.

So these are the pics of my crazy mess of a testing bench. I have the mobo sitting on motherboard standoffs.

This Weekend's Software Test

I still have not purchased the case and secondary center console yet. In the meantime, this weekend I am going to set my testing bench back up to install and test more software. One of them will be MyMobiler. Device Central, which I found out from testing in my Virtual Machine is already part of the Windows 7 OS and I suppose it only sets it up once it detects your mobile device USB connection. In any case, I want to try out the connectivity and control my Verizon xv6900 (HTC Vouge) from the Windows 7 Desktop using MyMobiler. I read in the forums that it works well, so we shall see. I am actually going to be getting the Samsung Omnia II...eventually, whenever that finally releases this century.

New Video Post- Watch .avi on Mirror/Monitor

I forgot to mention that I posted a new video on Vimeo. It's just showing how I can view movies on it using XBMC and navigating with my Wii Remote using bluetooth connectivity with my EEEPC (running gOS- Ubuntu-based Linux distro with Google Gadgets).

The link to the video since I can't get the Vimeo embed working:http://vimeo.com/6766137

New Selection Relating to Power Supply

I came across this thread here in the forums about a new product offered on mini-box.com. Its a DCDC-USB, Intelligent DC-DC converter with USB interface. Programmable by USB interface, able to output regulated 12V or can be changed by jumper selection, plus it's priced well under $100. Check it out!

This is something I may be looking into over the Carnetix. We shall see.

EEEPC Bricked

Well for some reason out of the blue my EEEPC will no longer power on. Unlike many that had this issue, as I came across in forums, I did not update or flash my BIOS. Well I performed a few suggestions I found online that others who had the same problem had tried. Still no go.

Here is one of the suggestions, which is the main troubleshooting tip I keep coming across on the web: http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=16983

In any case, I tried all the things suggested and it still will not power on. With or without battery...so now I have even more drive to get my new project up and going....also the reason why I still have my headunit for backup. At least I can play music.

In my new project I will be removing the headunit but my backup music player will be my Windows Mobile Phone.

Sad About my EEEPC

Well I tried troubleshooting the issue with my EEEPC not powering on. I even reset my CMOS battery. In any case, it was good to me for the two years it was working. I had the low end 2G Surf. I may look into a new model but maybe next year. I am focusing on my new project now using the Intel D945GCLF2D Mini-ITX.

My TRENDnet USB Wifi Adaptor works on the Intel. Connection is pretty fast too. I may just use this since I already own it..save from purchasing an onboard card for now.

Next Step is to setup Mobile Device Center with my HTC Verizon xv6900. I will then test mymobiler.

Windows Mobile Phone Control

I was able to successfully setup Windows Mobile Device Center and MyMyMobiler on my Windows 7. I setup connectivity with my Verizon HTC xv6900 (HTC Vogue). Here are the screenshots.

This is the normal view on top of the desktop:

This is the maximized view, fullscreen:

Wow! MyMobiler was so much simpler than I thought. No drama installation nor were there any issues editing the configuration file for additional tweaking. As long as I had my device properly setup and connected with WM Device Center, it's all good.

Internet Sharing Works (USB)

I was able to successfully get my internet sharing to work on Windows 7 using my HTC Windows Mobile Phone via USB. I have not tested bluetooth dial up yet. Although in the Car I found that Internet Sharing is more stable via USB than via bluetooth, both do work however..at least on LINUX.

In the car, atleast with my own experience, Internet Sharing with my Mobile Phone is more convenient and stable than using Wifi. So I am happy that this feature is working great on Windows 7. Either way at least I have a backup internet connection option, which is always great and convenient.

I am writing this post using my Internet Sharing Connection

I forgot to add that this also works while using Centrafuse.

It's Alive!

Well I'll be a Monkey's Uncle! I decided just now for the heck of it to try and boot up my EEEPC again..and sho nuff..it booted! I only had to setup the BIOS one time and things are back in business. I have my CarPEEEC again...well at least until I complete my new upgraded system.

Solar Powered Fans

OK..so I was brainstorming and thought of how I could integrate my other project (Solar Energy Integration). Well I could start off small and simple by using the sun to power the fans that I will use in the console. The main fan (120mm) I may still connect to mobo case fan header but for the other ones I'm using for ventilation I could power with Solar Energy.

This will take some additional brainstorming and design but I wanted to put my thoughts in print before I forget..
