2007 Mitsubishi Triton (Aussie)

Car - 2007 Mitsubishi Triton 4WD

Goal - I was basically wanting GPS navigation with highly detailed maps of Australia. Decided to go the carPC route for the added benefits, and just to be different (I live in the sticks and this will be a GREAT talking point at the pub ).

System - I've had all the components assembled and working for a little while, but finally got some time to start installing it this weekend. Should be 100% finished tomorrow, but right now it's in and working 8-)

I'm running a Dell Optiplex SX270 Windows XP PC with Pentium4 2.8gHz, 40gig HDD, 1GB RAM &CD-Rom.

Plus a Lilliput 7" touchscreen, Carnetix CNX-P2140 power regulator, GPS receiver, Centrafuse and OziExplorer software (with Australia 250K & HEMA 4WD maps). All up cost just over $600au (the most expensive bit being the screen).

Later I plan on adding USB Bluetooth, USB Next-G wireless broadband and OBDII reader with Tactrix cable

The PC

The power regulator.

Bit of a mess! Most of this will be hidden under the passenger seat.

Lilliput touchscreen (man there's some dust in my Triton )

Voila - it lives!!

Centrafuse frontend

OZIexplorer (what I REALLY wanted this setup for) Wow, it's even telling me where I am parked right now

I will post up pics of everything tidied up tomorrow, but for now it's time for a celebration!!!

Holmsie,

Looking great mate. Good to see another Aussie 4WD Car PC. Why don't you introduce yourself on this thread:
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/gene...carputers.html

Also follow the links in my signature block and see what you reckon about OzieEmbedded. I've got about 20 gb of Ozi Maps these days and run Odyssey Navigator for street nav. See www.twig.com.au

Oh and you will find me on www.newhilux.net. If you are not a member, maybe worth checking out www.newtriton.net

Tidied all the wiring, and road tested it all - everything seems to be working as it should

Some daytime shots

Yep, it must be an Aussie thing - the old "dashmat" is good for hiding the dust and protecting the plastic from baking sun. Surely such a thing exists in other parts of the world?

It may be an Oz thing, but we use 'em in sunny and hot parts of the U.S., too -- to keep the sun from drying out and cracking the material of the dash. Sometimes you'll see them inside the back window, too, if there's a deck there.

But there are protectants you can just spray on the dash to keep it from cracking. I've never seen carpet there before.

There are Aussie companies dedicated to making these dashmats

I guess having carpet on the dash is a bit daggy, but it also cuts down the reflection of the dash on the inside of the windscreen

Most car's I've owned over the years have had a dash cover... And I'm not from oz... I always had them to cut down on the reflected heat of the summer sun. Makes a HUGE difference. It actually surprises me that it surprises you...

Summer? Sun? Sorry, I live in Canada, I'm not familiar with those terms. Just kidding, guess it's not an issue here.

i think this would not work in the Triton - it could hit the gearshift lever when opening, and would come in contact with the panel above the HU location where the air and vent control are
