2003 Holden Vectra CDXI

Hey all,
So i have a new car.....Woo! its a 2003 holden vectra (badged as a vaxhall in europe) CDXI model with all the bells and whistles. Climate control, sports auto, leather, trip computer, etc etc etc. I have pulled all the computer and sound gear out of my old car (see link in my signature if you havent looked at it yet). However, there are many problems needing to be handled before i can start putting anything in the new car.

Firstly, the stock headunit for my car (blapunkt 2620) is integrated into the CANBUS, for steering wheel controls etc. I have been pouring over forums, and come up with little info. some people seem to have pulled the stock deck out fine. Others, however, have had problems doing so, leaving me wondering what to do... if anyone has experience with the audio in these vehicles please let me know....

basically i have two options:
1. pull out the headunit, chuck the screen there, run speakers of amps from pc in boot, then try and get the steering wheel controls to talk to pc.

or
2. leave headunit, get a holden dealer to put an aux in put in, feed computer into that, pull output for sub off speaker outputs. then try and fit a screen somewhere else...

i know there are tonnes of experienced people on this site, and so for now, i would like as much input as possible to help brainstorm.

here is car: (more pics to come)

The aux input sounds like your best bet. I am not sure how sophisticated the rest of the sound system is but if all it does is audio, I say leave it. Later on down the road you can do the aftermarket thing when there is more technology available I.E. steering wheel control interface etc. The best build jobs have always been done in stages.

aux in

Yeh i figured as much, car is in at holden stealership now, they are looking at aux in for me. Possibly thinking about a sunvisor monitor or something on the roof... still unsure as to direction of project, all i know is i miss having my massive song library at my fingertips . on the upside, there are storage compartments in the boot which i think will be perfect for car pc, just have to buy a tiny micro itx board or somthing to fit in there... as always, all input is valued!

Angry gah stealership

ok so bad news, the stealership said they cant put an aux in on it, that it must have been a factory extra only or something.... does anybody know if you can just buy the aux in adapter. Im in Australia, but even if i had to ship on from europe or something.... any ideas?

Hi kensbey,

could you get me the model and a pic of the back of the radio as I have a friend that work in a place that fits amps and speaker in to cars. thay have a lot of pinouts for radios in vahall, opel (that what there badge as in Ireland) and of holden.

If I have the pic of the back of the radio he will be able to tell me if aux pins are there.

They were on my OEM HD, all I had to do is wire it and then I had an option in the sorce for it.

hey tony, thanks for prompt reply, i will take photos when i get home, it is a blapunkt 2620 stereo. The manual that came with the car says that it can have aux in installed, 'see your holden dealer for fitting'. but holden dealer says they cant get the part anymore, i havent pulled the unit out yet, will do that asap.

Hi Kensbey,

I was talking to my friend today and he sent me this http://www.siocommunications.co.uk/F...hp?topic=435.0 link in a e-mail it mite be what you need to do. If you do not have the pins for the aux I have a connector that I can post you so you can make a aux in lead or I could put a 3.5mm jack socket on it before posting, but I can not be sure it will work for you.

If you want me to post you the lead PM me and I will send it to you. Also let me know if you want me to do the end as well. I have all the parts spair from doing my carpc install.
