2006 BMW 330 Convertible
Hi everyone, this is going to be my first carputer. I have had experience in the past building PC's and doing audio installs. I've read through a bunch of the installs and I think I'm confident enough to do this now. Just want to run a quick list by you. This is what I am planning to purchase for the install. I'm hoping this and the headunit will fit in the glove box so I can minimize the cables I need. Just wondering what other misc. cables I might need. anything else? Will there be any complications using a Viper alarm/remote start system? I think I will connect to the head unit with an aux cable.

PicoPSU-90 12V DC-DC ATX power supply
Maxtor STM980215AS MobileMax II Hard Drive - 80GB, 2.5", SATA, 5400RPM, 8MB
Kingston 2048MB PC5400 DDR2 667MHz Memory
M350 enclosure with picoPSU-90 and 60W adapter
Windows XP
Lilliput 7" VGA Touchscreen 619GL-70NP
BU-353 Weather-proof GPS Receiver
WiFi 802.11b/g USB Mini-Adapter Wireless Networking
ElmScan 5 USB OBD-II by ScanTool
I appreciate any advice you can give me.
Thanks

Parts ordered
Quick update for everyone:
First off, I ordered all the parts I think I need. It is very difficult for me, especially because this is my first build, to visualize how the parts will fit together. Hopefully, this is everything, but at least I'm getting the project rolling. I think I may need a double DIN bolt in kit to place the monitor on...not sure yet. Second, there seems to be an issue with getting ANY BMW to have a remote start/alarm. I'm assuming this is a problem with the chip in the key. Anyone have any successful remote installs on a BMW? I emailed the company so hopefully I'll get a response before the year is over. I have included a list of the cost of each item and the grand total.

First piece of advice.
Seeing as it's a convertible you really need to look at getting a transflective screen, rather than just a basic one.
The basic ones have enough trouble being readable with a standard car, but one with the roof down, you will probably never see anything.

$175.00
Hi,
Are you going to need a bezel for E36 or for E46? As i see your car is a BMW 2006 model and that means that your car is a E46 model.
The bezel you need for your car it looks like that: http://motors.shop.ebay.com/items/BM...0DINQ20BEQ5AEL
The E36 bezel will not fit to your car.

Shipped
Thanks for all your input. First off, I wanted to use a transreflective screen, but after seeing the cost of one I decided it would be best to wait til after everything is up and running, JIC everything fell through. Second, I forgot to mention that the car has the nav system in it. Will the trim from the nav work around the lilliput, or would I have to heavily modify it? I forgot to mention that during this project, I want to leave as much of the OEM intact, JIC I need to revert back to it. Third, BMW said they cannot install remote starts I found a website that sells the part that is needed, but I think it would be too much for my electrical skill level. Finally,I believe everything has shipped and should be here in a few days

Hi, How are you planning to integrate the computer to your BMW audio/Nav system?

The nav screen is a 6" or 6.5" whereas the lilli (and most other VGA screens) are 7", so no.

Thanks enforcer Kruben, I will be removing the nav system and keeping it intact. I am hoping that a shop here will install an aftermarket headunit into the car. after that, I will just use an aux cable from the pc to the deck. also, i reallized today the my 2 12s wont fit into the trunk I will have to get a custom box or figure out how to make it look good in the spare wheel well. The audio portion is second to getting the PC installed. The stock Harman kardan's are pretty good for now. Also, 1 of the 3 shipments arrive today. tigerdirect.com is almost too fast lol I will get pics up once it all comes in.

So, I thought I ordered the case/psu package. It turns out I only ordered the case That being said I decided to upgrade to a picoPSU-150-XT + 102W Adapter Power Kit. I figure a little more juice never hurts Hopefully this gets here in a week.

Just waiting on the psi and case now. I did some research and found out that a wire harness isn't availble for my car. Need to research how to manually wire the pc to the car audio. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

There have been a few discussions on the forum about the E46 sounds systems.
You need to search for sven4

Wow, I just typed that in and got so many hits I think my brain is about to explode! Luckily, for me, mini box has a very slow shipping department. So, I should have a week or two to do some research on this. I wanted to do as little splicing as possible. Hopefully on Friday I will "open up" the dash and trunk so I can get a few more visuals of what this will entail. Thanks Enforcer

She's alive!
Well that day has come. The UPS truck finally stopped at my house this time I got the pc all built up and all the drivers installed YEAH! step 1 of 100 done Next step is researching the installation into the car and choosing where to put it. Still looking into sven 4 and trying to learn about it. I have two amp I think I will be using, I also have two 12" subwoofers that I hope to install into the spare wheel area. I plan on doing this research now for about a month and then setting aside 2-3 days to actually install. Here is a pic of my baby. Any other input anyone would like to share would be appreciated. However, I am not begging or trying to get fed. Thanks guys
