AUDI A6 C5 Car PC

This is going to be a longer term project due to financial limitations but I wanted to log the progress anyway. I was playing with the idea of putting a PC in my car for awhile. After doing some research and clicking through some of the projects posted here, I decided to use a 7" Liliput monitor. I have not made a decision about the PC yet, installing the monitor will be first.

My Audi has the single DIN radio with the BOSE sound system so I decided to keep the radio. After debating with myself on whether to rip the dashboard apart and install the monitor where the cup holders and the center vents used to be, I decided to go a little more fancy and actually build a sliding mechanism that would move the monitor out of the way when the lid that hides the radio would be opened.

the first picture shows my center console "before" with a Pocket PC mounted to the dash that I used for mp3 and navigation. The lid is down, hiding the radio.

The lid open:

A friend of mine that put a car PC into his suburban and used a different housing for the monitor sent me the backpanel of his Liliput so I could build a mock-up. I scrambled through the basement and found a few hinges and parts to McGyver a sliding mechanism held together by sticky tape.

seninha is on a distinguished road
I'm planning to sell my former car (Mercedes ML320 with CarPC ) and get me a 2001 Audi A6.

Idea is also to keep the OEM stereo. Unit will be used for Navigation and Radio.
Then I want to install a CarPC , mainly for listening to MP3's , and playing movies for the kids in the back.
Due to the fact that the OEM unit will stay in place I have the idea to get me a smaller touchscreen (around 5.6 inch) and install it just in front of the backmirror.

Problem that I have now is finding the right screen. If this type of screen does not come a long then I would like to use your Idea, because it looks really great.

Would like to see more of it.

Oh, this can't work...can it? I mean, the heavy monitor, the thick vga cable...will that lid hold on?
