the xenarc screen should be easy to work with...don't worry about chopping away at the console trim...
after new years, i'll be redoing mine..making it smoother...too lazy to sand properly the last time i did it...
good luck on it! glad to see another SC with a carputer

The screen is as wide as the opening... right? Then how's it held in place. Me and my friend choppsed away like 2 of those top screws that hold the back together
I'm not chopping the console trim... one way to make it look stock
Yeh, when I'm done, I should be like the 5th SC owner with a carputer setup. But probably the 3rd who took the time to fabricate the screen into the dash and make it look stock

i didn't chop the middle of the top of the trim...I shaved the sides a bit, used some plexiglass that I cut to fit the sides so it holds the xenarc faceplate into place...then just slap some bondo over everything.
you've seen my pictures right? i think it looks pretty stock, gotta redo it and sand the hell out of it and paint it black. Working on making it into carbon fiber to match my interior pieces but it's giving me some problems...

Yeh, you took the other approach I'm still trying to keep that slight "gap" between the bezel and the monitor and climate control.
Good luck doing everything in CF

The screen is a little wider than the opening. The screws hold the screen to the front frame. I got my Xenarc used without a front and 1 of the screw holes was chopped/sanded down, but the other 3 were OK. Without them, the screen will rattle around. I don't know if you'll be using the buttons or not, but the buttons on the newer Xenarcs extend a bit further down and need to be sanded down if you are using them w/ and older screen. I've got my Xenarc in without the back piece since there wasn't room to screw it back in once I bondoed the front frame into the dash.

I'm not really fibreglassing the screen into the dash, just sanding it down. As you could see the stereo had small gaps between it and the climate control. I'm trying to keep those.
About the screws... I'm not chopping down the bottom ones. If worst comes to worst then I'm going to put a small U bracket between the front and back of the screen to hold it together.

There won't be any new pics for a while. School is in so I'm gonna have to make my uncle finish this. Good thing mostly everything is done Plus, my unle was the one who painted the new (fixed) cupholder seen in the pics, and it does not scratch

Yep. I have a LFD soarer with almost no options (except black leather) I don't even have a power sunroof
The steering lock was in the pic because that pic was taken *the* day I got my car. The stock alarm was toast and I got a $450 clifford alarm (with fake carbon fibre ) to replace it.
BTW: Toyota never made a Lexus Soarer. Those are just kids rebadging their Toyota Soarers And yes, they are HUGE! My car is bigger than either my mom's sentra (02') or my grandma's sentra (98').

Here's an 8" Xenarc that's open.

Thanks! I think the 7" is about the same size proportionally.

How to stop the paint from scratching off.
Hi, I dont know if you got the paint problem solved yet, but I'll let you know where you went wrong in prepping plastic for paint. Peroxide will not clean anything other than a cut ... it will probably leave a residue behind that is preventing your paint from bonding. Wash the plastic with dish washing soap first to remove any oils or dirt, then wear gloves so you dont get your finger prints on it. Finally give it a wipe down with rubbing alcohol before you paint. This shold give you the best possible adhesion.
Hope this helps.
