hey guys.... glad to see im not the only mustang attmepting all this
Willy: where did you end up running the cable through? i had a headunit(got stolen) and i ran the power for the amp through the driver side fender and then in by the clutch pedel. might hlep ya if you want to run it that way
also, you might run into a problem with the way the power is run if you do any suspension work up front. i have alot of suspension stuff done to my car and have clearance issues with my caster camber plates as well as the strut tower brace where you have your power run. might want to keep that in mind for the future
and are you goign to still run a headunit? i am goign without so i am lookign to see if i require a line driver or if the audiology will work
man, i have a ton of questions im still in the planning stages owell, if you looking for some local gearheads, jump onto RacersDen.net. there are about 1200 of us in the MD area

Thanks for the post SilVert.....
I ran the power cable through the "hood release" cable grommet. As I said it was a pain in the a$$ and took forever but it turned out real good.

I do plan on doing some suspension work in the future so thanks for pointing that out. The cable has a little slack there so I can move it around if it needs it. I guess I'll find out when suspension work starts.

I am removing the head unit, in fact as of last night the head unit does not have any speakers connected to it. I put in new speakers and rewired everything, going straight to the amp. From the testing I've done the Audigy seems to work great, and a couple of people in the forum have it and really like it.

Are you planning on coming to the DC area meet on Saturday? It's my first meet but it should be cool to meet other people around here with carputers, hell...it might give you some ideas!
Cheers!!!

wow if i didn't know better i would have thought i wrote that lol. i did the same thing for the power wiring, and doing similar suspension work soon:
H&R supersport springs (have)
steeda 4 bolt cc plates (on order)
tokico illumina 5-way adjustable struts/shocks (on order)
steeda bumpsteer kit (on order)
steeda offset steering rack bushings (on order)
steeda x2 balljoints (on order)
whats yours like?
my setup has no headunit, will be using the mach460 amps once i get the harness and one extra amp for the highs ('04s dont have an amp for the highs). last season i had 2 amps running my setup, but did'nt sound that great. the mach amps are pretty good, well, i like em.

Mega Update!!!!!!!!
OK....here we go.......
Got the system pretty much done last week. Here are some pic of what has been done, specially the fabrication of the screen bezel. I forgot to take pics of the computer in the trunk so please forgive the dumbass moment
The tweeters I installed, the one on the right is the stock one, bigger but not as good as the Alpine one. Because of the size difference I had to fabricate some mounting plates to fit the Alpine ones...
Mounting plate....
Mounted tweeter....
Alpine component system (speaker, tweeter, and crossover)...
Mounted speaker system on car's rear deck (pain in the *** to take out and mount back in!!!!! FYI)
Close up of the mounted speakers....
Platform I fabd to mount the Kenwood Amp and Stinger 1.2f capacitor.....
Rear of the amp & cap platform where the inverter is mounted....

Now for the face fabrication.....Thanks to my friend George who's help on this part was invaluable!!!!
This is the back of the bezel after being cut to fit and the Lilliput face bondoed to the bezel. We used metal mesh (usually provided with the bondo can) on the sides and top of the screen face for added strength the put bondo over it...
Here we used some fiberglass resin to fill in the gaps on the sides and top, when that was dry we sanded it and put a thin layer of bondo all around to finish the shaping and molding.....
After sanding the bondo really well we put on some automotive putty to make everything smooth....sanded a lot more and sprayed on some filler (there were several iterations of this process)......
After we were happy with it we threw on some paint, here are the freshly painted new bezel (left) and stock bezel (right).....
The bezel with the Lilliput screen mounted....
Finally, installed on the car.....
Here are some screenshots of the FrodoPlayer front end with a Mustang skin on and the iGuidance navigation (I still have not decided on a front end but this one works great at least for now...Thanks Frodo!!!).....

They're nice.... I used them because of their size more than anything. Fords have weird speaker sizes 5x7" which are kind of hard to find aftermarket. But they sound great!

well, im back to a stock headunit(as of today ). i dont have all the fundage to get my ideal system up and running.. but i haev made freinds who said they would hook me up
my car, wow.. there is alot of stuff done to it, lol. im not typing it sooo, here is a link to my page im workin on
http://silvert.racersden.net/test/Modifications/
i dont remember how much of that site actually works, but i know i spent a LONGGG TIME making it look like that, so i have no real content other than that
when i do my system i wont be running ANYTHGIN factory. i might as well just pull all the factory autio wires outta the car im going straight from the battery to the aftermarket amp's then to the speakers/subs

thinking about power... you could easily run from the battery into the fender then to where we(pyro and i) ran the power cable(right next to where the clutch pedal is, on the wall). might eb able to hide it better that way, more hidden and would aleviate any future problems with suspension . damn.. i might do that when i do it all
if you need any recomendations, hit me up. icv been through alot to get my car to where it is. and luckily, i somewhat understand suspension and know alot of the products out for our body style
you are doing the carputer the exact way that i am how do you plan on pulling radio signal. or have you tested it? i have a D-Link DSB-100, i tested it with a laptop from work and it didnt get such good reception, but that was only a 10 minute test in Gaithersburg
i might goto the meet.. my car has been having some tranny issues, so i just got it back the other day. where is it? i remember reading about it i have to many ideas as is, i dont think i can fit anymore

We just had a meet last weekend but it was rained out so we ended up in Dave & Buster's parking garage, but it was nice. We are planning another one...check it out
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...671#post473671
for the FM, I also got the d-link but have not installed it....the good thing about it is that the stock mast will fit into the antenna port on the d-link. I tested it off the car and it was workable, hopefully the mast on the car will help reception a little, i like having FM....can't miss my Elliot in the Morning!!!!

Quick update, I just got last night a new power supply that is going in this weekend. I got the Keypower 250W DC-DC power supply and I'm getting rid of the inverter setup. Hopefully this fixes all of the little kinks that I've been having with noise. I'll keep you posted.
