Did you mod anything at your car? like adding something to the bumpers, or that's how the canadian version looks like?

canadian version !

You like it ?

I'm optimizing the software right now as well as configuring the front-end. I think I'll use Centrafuse because it's nice and uses XML so it's easy for me to modify the language (French's my primary langauge).

I just installed minlogon.exe mod and it's working quite well ! I do a 39sec boot instead of ~1min !

I'll post other pictures as soon as the computer is back in the car and then I'll continue fiberglassing the left part of the trunk for the subwoofer and finir the computer install (with black carpet over it!)

Thanks for the pics CaptainFritz!

I have an '05 Corolla S as well. I've been searching my different options for mounting a LCD, but your suggestion for using the upper cubby is awesome! The MTS12000 is cool and I could use one of those if I found a good 1 din converter for the head unit area...

However, if I lost the stock head unit, I'd have to install an amp somewhere else, and the volume knob for it would have to be relocated somewhere convenient..

I already have a DF-TOY installed, so keeping the head unit would let me still use it as well.

It will be great to see how it works out for you. I will eagerly await your results!

I didn't found anything similar on the net yet.. but I saw a few installs with one (and it was hand made )

I just started the University today so I'll have less time.. (and money!) to continue, but as soon as I have new pics I'll post them

P.S.: I would REALLY like to have an aux input but can't find any information on what kind of radio do I need ? Do I need the stock WITH cd-change controls ? Do you have the cd-changer controls on yours ? How do you switch audio source ? If you don't need yours anymore, I'm really interested !

I have what I believe is the base model stereo system for the '05 Corolla S. It does not have a 6 disc changer. However the Head Unit can be used to control one if you upgrade to one. The DF-TOY essentially fools the head unit into thinking that you have upgraded to a CD changer system. All I did was take the head unit out, plug the DF-TOY into the back of the head unit and put it back in.

On the head unit it doesn't appear that there are CD-Changer controls... and it won't appear that way until you actually have one installed. The 'Disc' button is the magic part. Pressing the 'DISC' button on the head unit will select either Disc 1 which is the indash CD Player, or if pressed again it will access Disc 6 which is actually the DF-TOY. The DF-Toy has two stereo RCA inputs (2 Left, 2 Right) ... track 1 on "Disc 6" is RCA input 1 and track 2 is RCA input 2.

It's been really nice. A couple people online have said they thought the signal was too weak, but plugged into my M-Audio M3 mp3 player, I have had absolutely great results.

Attached are some photos of the DF-TOY and my head unit. Sorry it was dark so things got a little fuzzy.. The DF-TOY by the way is underneath the passanger seat near the front. They give you an insanely long cable with it.. so you can mount it pretty much anywhere.

I am thinking I'll probably go the route of taking out the head unit. So I may need to get rid of the DF-Toy here pretty soon. I'll let you know once I finally figure out all of the details of my car-puter.

Is all you're worried about theft? If so, you could always put an lcd in the double-din opening where the head-unit is now, then pull the front "face-plate" part of the stock stereo off and make a fake cover for it, so that it would look completely stock when the cover was in place.

Thanks a lot for the info, you're my man

Just tell me as soon as you don't need it anymore

For the theft thing, yes it's my main concern for the moment. I've thought of putting the LCD where the radio is and putting a "false" radio frontplate over it, but I think I'll keep my stock HU because if I want music right away without starting the car pc, I'll be able to do it.

I'll test it the way I've thought (doing a home-made in-dash unit in the upper storage box) and I'll post some pictures as soon as the project advance !

Thanks everybody

That is a great idea. Do you have suggestions on the working of such a cover? I have an 04 corolla, and an aftermarket HU, My screen is in place of the stock HU, I wanted to sell the stock unit, but If I can rip out the face and do something cool like that with it That would be great, I havent finished my screen fabrication process, but am close.

the front cover of the stock radio (at least mine '03 model) does come off. It's attached via a ribbon cable. So I actually did think about this for awhile, but the cover is actually about 1/2 - an inch thick.. or not thick, but it wraps around the rest of the radio that much. I guess with a bunch of cutting u, and some pre-thought to the lcd mount, you could make something like that work.

Nice to see that I'm not the only owner of a Corolla with a computer inside

Anyone knows where I could get an Aux input for the radio (like the DF-TOY shown above) in Canada ? or anyone selling one ?

Thanks !
