How did you take out the small buttons in front of the shifter? I tried to build in my switches but couldn't figure out how to get to the underside of the buttons. Do you have a guide or can you point me on how to get there?

You should also disconnect your vehicles battery anytime your in the dash playing around. The newer vehicles have a **** load of tiny sensors hidden in the dash.... god forbid you smash or trip one when taking off a dash peice.... the bag would take your head off or throw you into the back seat...
nice install :-)

1) Remove frame around shifter. This can just be popped off with a flathead screw driver under the edge.
2) Remove 2 size15 Torx screws holding "ashtray" in place.
3) Pull "ashtray" up and towards shifter... SLOWLY! The wires attached to the ESP Button and 12v outlet in the "ashtray" are not very long. They will need to be disconnected (very easy). Then you can pull the whole "ashtray" out. The button covers just pop out with a little pressure.

Great, thanks! Now all I need is for my buttons to arrive.
Btw, did you try to get the original buttons? I asked at my local VW dealer and the only ones they have are with the ESP text on it. They don't have any clear buttons. Do you know what they are normally used for?

There are some other buttons to go there, like the "W" button. As far as I know that option is only in Europe and has something to do with Winter Tires. We can change that option via the indash menu on our vehicles. But that button is just like the ESP button. What I did was just buy some regular buttons at RadioShack and mount them on those blanks.

yeh that's what I've done last night I mounted 2 buttons on the middle button covers and a led in the right one. But it would look so much better if the buttons were original...ah well can't have it all
Btw, I've got the euro version and I don't have the W button...

Weeeelllllll... Ive decided to step back from it for the moment. Ive decided to take apart the whole setup (mobo, psu, harddrive) and move it out of the dash and into the trunk, where I can more easily fiddle with it. When I go to get my hands dirty and do that I will be mounting a slim somewhere. Not sure where yet. Hoepfully it'll fit in the glovebox. Currently I have the fullsized dvd/cdrw drive in the glove box, just sittin in there. Its too big to mount, but it works for now.
Im also going to start to help another local dubber with installing a similar setup in his MarkIV Jetta.

The fuse box in the dash, as you open the drivers door...
there are some empty slots on the lower lefthand side. On the rear side of the box this is where a thick Black and yellow wire goes. Its controlled by the ignition.
