Audi A8 IBM ThinkPad G40
Ok, spin off for my new car. I'm currently setting up my hard- and software for my aluminium bratwurstwagen. Pics will follow. I'll be using the following:
* IBM StinkPad G40 P4 2,4GHz, 40 Gb HDD, 512Mb RAM
* BU-303 GPS receiver
* Lilliput 7" WS TS
* Superlight M$ Winblows XP Pro
I'll stick the laptop in the trunk, try to sort out a mount for the screen in/on/under the dash, power management through ACPI and remote on via the touchscreen.
If I find the time the screen will be hidden Volvo-stylee, on top of the dashboard.

Very nice car for sure.
Do you really have all these cars:
Vehicle: 2xAlfa Romeo 164 3.0, Alfa 33, BMW 525iT, Audi A8 3,7
They are all big and fast. The alfa 33 doesn't fit very well on that list but I assume you don't have that one for the size, hehe.

Spanks, yeah, all those are my rides, but the beemer is beeing replaced by the alu-dkw. The 33 is a very sleepy race project and the 164's are pleasure only

Hi - i'm thinking of doing a similar setup in my Toyota Cynos with an IBM T41.
Question though for lusen - how are you planning on doing the remote power on from the screen?

Quite easy, the laptop is always in sleep mode, and powers up on any USB activity.

Heh, cause there are none yet :P
My lazy arse just finished the software setup, I'm still not sure about where to put the screen tho. Just got a new daytime so dashpc project priority climbed down a bit. I've ordered an odb2-lead and the VAG-com software and all the other leads needed, so it might be done before christmas...maybe...

What's ACPI?
I'm thinking about doing a laptop now too, since it's kinda cheaper... Is it connected to your car battery? Is it possible doing it to a battery just sitting by itself? Also, "remote touch on" does that mean if you touch the screen while your car is off and your computer will still be on?

Fuc it. Just sold the two Alfa 164's and got me an Alfa 156 SW instead. Now, in the 156 there's a perfect spot for the seven inch (yes, the monitor, nothing else) right in front of the gear stick, where the ashtray sits. There's no excuses left for not installing it now. YES, I KNOW, i truly AM a lazy fck!

Cheers! Yes, maybe, but I don't want to cut the car too much, since I (as maybe you've noticed) change car quite often
