05 Str8 Black XB
I am using this mostly for reference, but you can still throw some comments my way if you have any. Anyway i started this project about three months ago. It is taking a very long time. I had an extra computer laying around so i tore it apart and i am going to mount it in my trunk under my floor panel thingys. I have a 7 inch lilliput touchscreen which i have already mounted into my radio bezel. I have my headunit mounted in a little cubby thing under my AC controls.
First of all here are pics of my car. Carputer pics soon to come.
I want my carputer to do the following:
1. Play Mp3s
2. Navigation
3. Engine Diagnostics(later on)
4. so many others that i cant think of right now.
I have updated this thread on 10/27/08 and you can find my new post on page 6.

I wish i could post pics but i do not know how to post pics at this moment. How do i post pics, please help? Try hosting them on something like photobucket, then just putting a link in here.
I want my carputer to do the following:
1. Pretty Much any front end can do this.
2. Same as above with the appropriate software

I wouldn't suggest running that system as is for too long. The PCI/AGP cards need support. Go over enough bumps or a big one and you'll likely end up shorting out your cards and/or computer.

How are you going to use the CD/DVD ROM if you are installing it like that?

nice setup man, but being in FL myself i can imagine that puter getting pretty hot under there. Are you going to cut out holes for fans out of the floor board?
I'm in the process of building a small case to go under the passenger seat because i didn't want to rip out my spare tire, i know what would happen as soon as i take it out
How did you mount your lili in the dash? I have a regular singledin dash kit that i cut out the little cubby below where a single din HU would go and stuck the mount that came with the lili on the bottom of the little cd-rom cubby of the dash kit. So my lili is sticking out of the dash right now, i want to have it back behind and flush with no buttons showing but i don't know where to start
I'm also undecided on where to put the cd rom drive, i will probably put it somewhere in the dashboard on the passenger side or in the glove box, or get a slim one and put it somewhere
Also, how is the inverter working out for you? I used to use one but i got tired of the noise and i think my puter is too beefy for the cheap inverter i had. I bought an Opus 150w and i'm loving it, except for the stupid casing shorting out the PSU. I'm running it w/o the top part of the PSU case on (the part with the fan)

I wondered the same thing, but the tray probably clears the height of the inverter...?

A fellow SE member! I'm in SE, originally from So-Cal, but now in Portland, OR.
Check out Dave Moulton's Toyxb... he is in the socal chapter. He is sponsored by Xenarc and has a pretty nice setup.
I would really think about getting a DC-DC power supply or somesort of shutdown controller, if you don't have one.
I would also think about a MB with integrated parts if you don't have a case of some sort.
If you have any questions feel free to PM me here or on scionevolution or scionlife... same username on them all.
edit:
wait, we've talked before..... I didn't know you were an SE member though....

Vairu, I flush mounted my screen. Its mounted i just have to get the time to paint the dash then i can install it and take pics. Its really easy to do and if you need help i can tell you what to do. I dont know how the inverter works or if it gets to hot because im not done with it yet, but im sure i will have to make some adjustments when i am done.
