isnt the touch screen plastic and therefor water resistant ?

Its plastic, yes, but the seams in the casing aren't sealed. I think you're going to run into problems due to water unless you silicone it all shut. And then you may have overheating problems.

I love the idea though.

Also, why didn't you flush the screen in? Was there an unmovable structure underneath the bezel where you cut?

yes the small lcd has a pokey out bit and i dont have a replacement plastec for that! may be in mark II.

I intend to seal around the screen (front panel) with a small bead of silicon and sort of box the rear away from moisture with a small fan to keep things cool.

Hmm, awesome idea, but I'm concerned about you losing the functionality of the original display. It contains things like speedometer and other indicators. I used to work at a Honda dealer, and absolutely *love* the new GL, and have even thought about the idea of a bikePC myself. I simply couln't come up with a good place for the display..

Here's a thought... what if you snipped a small piece of air filter material to attach to the grill area on the back of the case? That should let the air still flow through enough to cool it, while wicking the moisture out of the air.
