2001 Toyota 4Runner Rdiggidy's (Lots of Pics)
I'll modify the text later, but thought I'd get a few pics up. The bulk of my goods came in the mail today, so I began the project:
Step #1 Unpack:
Step #2 Cut Plexiglass to fit in rear compartment:
You guys might all be plexiglass experts, but I was not. So here's what I learned:
-Leave the film on it until your done, cutting, breaking, etc.
-For straight lines score it and break it, it's the easiest way.
-For anything but a straight line, the best method I found was a dremmel (though there might be other ways that are just as good for this)
Step #3 Drill holes and mount harddrive and motherboard:
It's a start! I'll be gone for 4 days and then I start a new job on the 3rd, but my goal is to have the install finished by next weekend. I'll try to keep this post up to date. I know there are a couple other 4Runner guys wanting to see how this project works out.

Looks awesome, i also have an 01 4runner, 4wd, limited, I also am currently installing my carputer, I have everything installed now in the rear compartment in an ampie case. My lilliput screen w/TS will be getting here Thursday, damn, waiting for it seems like forever... I did however test with my regular monitor, i still have my HU with TOY-AUX PIE adapter. So far so good, except some horrible noise through the speakers, I'll have to check my grounds, i think thats what it is. Not wooried about it yet.
Your install looks great though, i dont have the courage to take out my HU yet. Just one question though, how did you do your ground and 12v+ power line, I originally made the rear power outlet perm live and got power and ground from that, but ofter the noises and being worried about the load on the line, i now have an 8gauge from Positve on battery and ground off the closest tie down point to the rear compartment, do you think that will be ok? oh also didnt survive crank, im thinking maybe the new wiring will help that too. Look forward to more pics of your install....

I'm waiting on 1 more amp and then my project will be done (hardware wise at least)....well, except for this one problem: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...d=1#post721191
That rear power outlet is pretty tiny wiring, I don't think I'd use that. I have 4gauge wire running from my battery to under my front driver seat, where it goes into a distribution block. Then 8 gauge running from there to my amp in the back, 8 gauge to the amp in the front, and 10 gauge to the Opus power supply for the computer.
All the stuff up front (USB hub, DVD drive, monitor), get powered from the opus, so lines have to be run all the way back up front.
Didn't survive a crank? What power supply?
How do you plan on mounting your screen? Are you going to pull it out of the case or leave it in? If the lilli screen is anything like the Xenarc I would do exactly what I did. I am very happy with the results and it was relatively easy.
I don't know if it looks factory to others, but it looks factory to me

Yeh i realized it wouldnt be a good idea to use the power outlet, so i now have 8 gauge from battery to, oh, M1-ATX p/s by the way and ground from chassis, 12v-switched to ACC. Before that i was getting ground and pos from rear power outlet and the 12v-switched to the ACC. Maybe now it will survive crank. fingers crossed.
As for the screen, I will have some kind of mounting arm, it can then move closer to me or in front of the passenger. maybe soon i will take the HU out, but i dont plan on keeping the car for more than 2 years. Moving to spain. I love how it looks in the dash though..
Did you get any noise? Maybe my better ground will take care of my noise, but for now just 1 more day until screen gets here, I wont be doing anything else until then.
What gauge wire did you run from opus back to front for dvd etc..?

Well I'm still waiting on another amp to get sound in my front 6 speakers. For now all I have is my sub hooked up, but I don't get any distortion/noise from it. I'll let you know when I get the amp hooked up if I have a noise issue.
I grounded everything in the back (my amp, power supply etc.) to the bolt that grounds the 12v cigaratte lighter outlet in the back. I scraped away the paint from there and it seems to be a good ground.
I ran 10 gauge for the 12v line and 12 gauge fro the 5v line (mostly because I had a spool of those two gauges and they were different coloros so I could tell them apart). You don't need that thick of wire....but then again it can never be too thick.

Well, sweet, i got my lilli, hooked it up and it works perfectly, also audio noise has completely disappeared its crystal clear now, Upgrading the power and ground definitely helped..
It turns on and off when its supposed to, but still not surviving crank though, its all hooked up correctly, maybe my p/s is bad?
Any ideas? The m1-atx does come with startup/shutdown controller built in.
I'll double check all the settings, but for now im lost..

**** we should make a 4runner club. I'm installing in my 2001 4runner Sport Edition. I've been into car audio for a while so I know that area of things. So if you 4runner guys need any audio suggestions or need to know what will fit send me a email or a pm,
