Accord '96 Ex Mac Mini Install

So I've finally gotten underway with installing the carputer into my accord. I work took out the dash today of the accord stripped all the nasty paint my brother had on the car (I got this from him 6 months ago since he bought a new car, to use as a project ish car).

That's how it looked when I got the car. I decided that the monitor is going to go right at the top of the central dash piece above where the headunit was. Cutting all the surrounding frame and I got a 7" Lilliput Touchscreen for the job since it fit perfectly.

After cutting the piece out I sanded the stubs that were left and made sure the screen fit perfectly in which it did. I separated the screen frame and the button frame on the monitor because I didn't like the angle that they had it. I either planned on moving it or just making a more elavated angle.

I thinned all the paint to the original blackk it was. This was my first time working with any filler, using Bondo Fiberglass Resin "Jelly" and obviously I used way too much but it just made for more sanding.

There were some major holes in it so I did another layer and sanded it down.

On the backside of the frame I made sure I cut all the bondo away from the original screws so I could easily removed the screen again if I needed to.
I put the monitor in to make sure it looked okay and enjoyed a nice movie of Star Wars.

I put it in the car to make sure I liked how it looked and i thought it was perfect.

Today I put the buttons on a more angled look. I cut out the cigar lighter and the cigarette thing since I don't ever use either. I'm going to indent a housing that will have carbon fiber which I ordered two days ago with all the switches needed for the carputer. And also I relocated all my window remote window switches to my center dash already and going to get rocker switches to put around my stick shift with the emergency light button towards the rear of the dash behind the leather boot.
I will have more pictures later. By the way I like the flip switches and will be mostly using those to mount to the carbon fiber. If you have any creative ideas you should recommend them and I might like them.

Anyway about the computer I'm getting a Intel Mac Mini 1.5 gHz and mounting the wires in my glove compartment in a plexiglass mount. Power up and down will be mounted anywhere on the dash. I'm getting front row for the multimedia program. I'm not sure what GPS to use or program. I'm getting a rear view cam and a in dash cam that views out the front window. Also later hooking up the GPS directly to the computer so if the car gets stolen I can search the internet to find where it is. The computer will be in a locked compartment that is camoflauged into the dash. Later I'll reroute the dvd/cd drive somewhere into the dash but that's for later work.

Here are some pictures after the bondo + sanding yesterday.

Now I have to wait until the carbon fiber gets here and when I get enough to get the Mini.

I need some help from you guys now. I need to find 4 DPST switches to finish my center console window controls. If you can find some post it up! Most of the ones I have found are in europe or japan and I can't find them in english dollars. If they have lights on them make sure they are green.

HELP!!!!

Also I took out the top part of my dash and removed all that green. I had to refund some guy on a product I sold him cause something went bad so I'm about 100 dollars down from where I was. >_< But I'm supposed to be selling a lot of things this weekend so hopefully by next weekend I'll have enough.

Well today is another free day that I have and going to finish the main frame of the center console. I got my carbon fiber which I'm going to epoxy to the area under the screen. Still not sure how many or what switches I'm going to have on it.

I need some more help for you guys. Friday after school I spent the entire time searching for specific switches. Apparentally they are very hard to find in America. I need 4 of them.

If any of you can help me out with it. Either find me them in US or if you have a way to get them, I'm all ears.

I'm going to be using those as my window remote control from the master control and they will be centered near the rear of the stick boot under a panel.

During the week I had enough time to strip the paint off the entire dash trim.

I know this is taking awhile to do but it's hard to do this stuff when I have AP tests and speeches to give >_<.
I'll have more pictures up later hopefully.

I did some of the housing for the switch board and then realized that bondo is a resin is to difficult to use to get a smooth build so I'm going to just make the frame out of wood and epoxy it to the carbon fiber and the rest of the frame.

I'll start crafting the wood tomorrow when I get the chance.

Here are some nasty picutres of the rough frame came out. Gonna redo it with the wood framing.

Tomorrow I'll do the back of the frame hopefully and get some epoxy and seal it all in and get rid of all the gaps obviously.

Okay didn't get around to the backdrop yet because I had another idea which was to spend hours on bondoing and sanding. I dropped the whole idea of the wooden side frame because that's rediculous and I had a shortened school day today. Total I spent about 9 hours. Doing many different layers and areas of bondo trying to get all the curves symmetrical.

Let me know if you think those curves are good. Next is the wooden backdrop. I need to think of a way to seal it to the bondo frame then it's off to painting. Then to bolting in carbon fiber and drilling switch holes.
