Todays pic. This is after the first coat of bondo and 6 hours of sanding. its starting to shape up. the corners are just about where they should be. I couldnt ask for a better start. Being that its in my car and im kinda a perfectionist when it comes to stuff like this, im sure there will be many more hours of sanding and coats before i think its perfect. I got time until the HQCT module and the usb-pcmcia adapter come in:P wooohoooo sanding here i come!!!

looking really good, if i may make a suggestion, if you are going for an oem look cover up those buttons or at least relocate them. Keeping them is going to throw off the clean lines of the bezel.

thanks for the compliments.
I thought about moving the buttons like in portabuddys pic, but i decided i would leave the buttons where they were and move the screen up. since its recessed im hoping this takes car of most of my daytime glare issues. even though my windows are tininted at 5% visibility my windshield is like 5 feet long. Its litterally the biggest windshield ive ever seen on a car. like i said im just hoping that because its recessed and moved up itll take care of most of the glare.

It won't...
Nice work so far, btw. Although I agree with Scott_fx that those buttons should've been relocated...

thanks red!
I get to cover someones shift so ill be on nights for the next couple days. the good thing is that I was around to get the door for the UPS man. He brought me more goodies from the mp3car store.
Only thing left is the U132 adapter once its finally in the store to ship. Let see if i can use the factory amps in the SI. if not I was looking for a good 5.1 mobile audio amp that will connect to the digital from the audigy 2 zs. anyone have any recomendations?

*Update 5-25-06*
After about 40 hours of sanding and filling and more sanding and more fillling and more sanding, My dash was about 99% finished. all the corners look as if they are where they should be, there dont seem to be any more spots by feel that are high or low, everything seems to be flat. so today I took my 2 dash peices into the body shop i always use to see how much they would charge for the other 1% and paint. They told me they would finish off the little sanding that remained they would prime the 2 peices spray them and clear them the same color as my car for 150 bucks. I said deal. I left the peices with them today at lunch. they said they should be done by saturday. monday at the latest. so it looks like ill be 100% done with fabrication very soon.. then all ill have left is to re-assemble the touchscreen, and start installing.
Ill post pictures of the dash as soon as i get it back from the shop :P

funny i was going to do the same thing, paint the dash to match the car. my other thought was, I'm getting custome two-tone leather seats made up for my Si so i was thinking to leather wrap the two peice dash the same colour as the seats, like in the eclips. Anyway good job and way-to-keep-on-track, I'm very impressed, too bad i didnt get any more done on mine.

lol. dont worry man youll find the time to finish yours. Too much invested to stop at 50%. it seems im just burning thru cash to just get it 99% done,. its been alot of work so far. lol, and my fingers hurt. ha. I originally was looking for a place to do what modicoat.com does thinking maybe a carbon fiber coating, but here in the usa not australia. I was having a hard time finding a place. Then i decided to take it to the guys that do all my body work. they do an excellent job of paint match, and quality work. they said theyd do a once over on the front, prime and paint. this is gonna look like it could of been an option on the car.
after i get it back ill reassemble the lcd and start adding all the additional hardware i got in, before i install it all.. lol no free weekends do do something major like that till the middle of june. Im hoping i have it done for the weekedn of the chicago meet.

*Update*
Went to the body shop today to pick up a peice of my dash, and also to look at the other peice, even after all the sanding there was some imperfections that showed when paint and gloss was applied.
The Shop is gonna flatten a spot or too and fill a couple small spots in. I hope it comes out nice. id hate to have to wait longer and pay out more. oh well, i wont install it till its perfect. or close to it. anyhow, I did get one dash peice today. heres the snaps of them at a couple diff angles. a hot on the car to show color match, and then a light change. :P youll see....

Can i see the side that you worked on, please? or better yet in the car, it must look awsome. lol at least some one had some luck. i got a $60 parking ticket on the weekend, i come back to finish my screen on sunday and find it in peices and yesterday i got pulled over and got 400 in tickets. yay! SMILE AND SAY WOOHSAAA. ^_^. life goes on at least i had the sense to buy two bezzles at once just in case. your dash is sooo shiny, woooh nice.

well they say bad luck comes in three's. sucks but hopefully your luck will change for the better. im thinking the second time around on your bezel should go smoother since you did it once already and know what to do.
Ill snap pics of the right hand side of the dash as soon as i get it back from the shop. They were supposed to fix the last imperfections after they primed it, but they didnt, they just sprayed it. I must say it looked like crap. So I told them they didnt do as I asked, and I did not take it with me. There fixing the mistakes they should of fixed in the first place now. Im hoping to have it back today, but we shall see. They are making sure all the walls and faces are completely flat before they spray it again otherwise there wasting there time since ill make them re-sand and paint till it is flat like its supposed to be. I want it right, no need to rush them. Usually after Im done sanding something I take a really glossy paint so I can see the highs and lows. This time i didnt since the shop said theyd take care of it before they sprayed it. we shall see.
Thanks for the compliments on the shinyness of the paint lol . the shop treated it like they would if it was outside the car. after they were done clearing it, they buffed and polished it. :P I promised them i wouldnt wax it for at least 3 months. hahahahahah
