*update 6-5-06*

Ok, well i finally got the right side dash from the painters. i must say they did a pretty good job. im going to have to take some paint out where the button holes are, but i knew i was gonna have to do that when i got it back. this dash has a clear coat on it that has been polished just like the outside of a car. i guess all the sanding work paid off. you can see one or two minor high or low spots, but i think it looks great. what do you guys think?

Tonight if im not busy, im gonna see about putting the buttons in and starting to reassemble the screen.

thanks for the compliment man.

Took me most of the evening to clean out the button holes from the excess paint and make sure the buttons all moved correctly without sticking. ive got it all together now, heres some snaps. next thing i think will be to take the glovebox out of my car and start to mount the pc.

update *6-14-06*

Moving right along, hopefully, ill be done within the week with the rest of this. heres some pics of todays work. not much left to do just a few more things with moutning, and a cable or two i still need to buy or make. I wont know exactly what im doing for the sound system end until I see what the premium factory setup is. its a decent system, but we will see how they have it amplified. oh well.. where im at now, mounting pc in glovebox. Im in the process of making a lid for it so you wont see anything inside.

Technically i havent finished with the glove box yet. im having a harder time mounting everything then i originally thought. that should be done tonight or tomorrow. i hope. then ill have to make a face for it when im done. heres 2 pics of the dash as it is now. for documentation purposes.

I also would like to add a few pictures of the amp that I got yestarday. Everything points to me not being able to use the factory amps so I picked up a soundstream 5 channel 600 watt amp. I was planning on spending 500-600 for the amp. The soundstream was retail around 400. but buy.com had it for 190. The build quality of the thing looks decent. The amp is on the bigger size as you can see when i lay down a 20oz gatorade bottle next to it. Cant wait to hear what it sounds like. Im hoping to be done with this project within the next couple of days. besides odds and ends. The only things left to do(obdII and steering wheel controls) will wait until my bank account doesnt feel so low.

Heres the amp.

Well today, my car kicked my ***. Spent another 250 today on wiring. When did cables get such a high markup??? anyhow. the price of wires is not what kicked my ***. I had my brother to help me today, hes off on vacation and was good enough to start while i was still in work. when I got off I went over to his place and started giving him a hand.

This car fights dirty and fought us all the way. First obsticle was running the amp wire. youd think getting thru the firewall would be easy. just pick a gromlet and go thru it. nope. the engine is set kinda into the damn car with really no way to get your hand or anything to the gromlet. so after about an hour and a half and a tore up arm squeezing it into places it wasnt meant to be, I got the power wire ran thru the damn firewall.

That dash was a pain in tha *** to pull apart. it seems like every panel needs to be pulled off just to remove the ones i wanted. figures.

My fiberglass interfered with the mounting of the heater/air controls. so it had to be cut down and shaved some.

now since theres no factory harness from metra yet. (yes i know theres a number for one metra 70-1722, which you cant get for another month. I called metra, and went to different places that sell metra harnesses. there answer was come back in 2 or 3 weeks and check back.) So I said the hell with it, i only need the ignition, power, ground and speakers. so i take a look at a diagram cut the proper wires leaving room to splice back into the harness later if i ever have too. So i said ok lets make sure which speaker this is. usuing a battery i jumped the wires. which makes a thud to the corresponding speaker. no thud. damn damn dman dman damn. so the only reason i know of for that trick not to work. theres an amp inline. dammit! Ive looked and looked and looked and havent been able to find any info saying there was an amp, If there is one, I think it has to be in the center counsil. but im not sure.

Anyhow so i called it quits for the day. time to search for some documentation on what wires pin out to what, maybe ill find a diagram for the amp too. ok so i know im dreaming. but heres a few pics i snapped today, also this is what it looks like when you take a brand new car and rip it apart for ****s and giggles.

I'd be crying if that were my car at the moment, lol. Good luck with that man. Do you have a CD changer? If so tap into the inputs from that, use a switch to change between the changer and your carputer. If not, buy a CD changer if that option appeals to you. Also, your car might not have an amp. The speakers could be powered solely by the head unit.

nah man, theres no head unit. everything including fm will be controlled by the pc. Ill leave the audigy with 3 sets of rcas to the amp for powering the speakers, then back to the factory wiring to reach the speakers. Im hoping to be done today. well done with installing it at least. i dont think itll ever be 100% done lol.

Cool, I've gone with that kind of setup b4. It leaves the most options open for EQ, etc.

np.

Well. today was a decent day. lol

found the amp. contacted honda. it took them about 2 hours to locate the pinout on the amp so it could be bypassed. installed the amp, installed the dash and everything. only issues at this moment. the HQCT is not working yet. Im not sure whats up with that but i think i have an idea. the amp is not tuned to the system really. and for some reason the audigy subwoofer is grey'd out. so i cant select the sub also no output goes back to the sub. also my gps isnt picking up satellites like its supposed to. so I still have a few things to work on, but at least i had music for the ride home. :P

Heres some pics of the final product. the rest seems minor or software.
