Yeah, its been all over the place. The worst part is, I have the drive to do all this stuff in a month or two, but my budget doesnt allow it. I Am getting married in may, and my fiance is also working on her doctorate, which means i am the only one working. This all makes things tight, so everything get stretched over a longer period of time. My goal is to have this done and installed before my wedding, may 18th.

I found a way around the Gtgina.dll problem linksys users have for logon. If you dont know about it, installation of newer wireless adapters add in a file that throws off the way you log on. Its a real pain in the arse, and you cant change it via the control panel.
What to do about it:
Go to start, run: control userpasswords2 (no space in userpassword2)
Uncheck the box that says: Users must enter a name and password to use this computer.
Click apply. When the next screen pops up, leave the fields empty for password.
Click ok.
Reboot.
At this point you should see the login screen come up, then go right by.

Thanks chevy! Im using Tinyxp for a os. It was quicker when i got it, with nothing on it. Just roadrunner and winamp, i could boot to music in about 34 sec. Now with Digitalfx 2.0 as a skin, bluetooth, wireless internet, gps and everything else, its boot to music in about 55 seconds. My way of combating this (after in bootvis and everything else i can think of) is to hook my psu up to an output on my remote entry system on my car to the same input as ign wire, with a diode. That what when i unlock my doors, it starts the boot process hopefully shaving off 10 seconds or so. Its only theory right now, but im pretty confident i can get it to work how i want.
EDIT: Bootvis shows cold boot takes 34 seconds, and winamp is running by 37 seconds.

Hibernate should help drop the time a little.
Remote starting the PC is very handy as well. I have a long range remote with some aux outputs and a custom SDC, but it should be easy enough with just the unlock. It's negative trigger (off one of the far right wires on the BCM) so you could use a relay if you want to reverse it for something that takes a positive pulse. If nothing else, make a 5-10 minute timer that simulates ACC/IGN (with 2 doides going into the SDC) before you get in.

From the moment i touch the power switch to hearing sound is 22 seconds in hibernate. Thats not to shabby. I have no testing though to see if my usb components will make it back from hibernate and function properly. Because of this, i have told myself i may have to cold boot each time. Ive accepted it at this point.
What are your system specs chevy? Im running an old Intel board with onboard sound and video, 512 mb ram (maxed out) 1ghz PIII processor. Do you have an option in your bios for quick boot? or anything like that? It made a pretty good difference on my machine.

My specs
Via m10000 1ghz
512 mb
4gb CF card (133/x )
After some work in bios, disabling all devises from starting but the CF card I still get slow boot times. Now from standby (s3) I start back up in less than 10 seconds.I think I'm gonna use S3 for my start up.I haven't tested to see what power its pulling in S3 but I belive it is low enough plus the m1-ATX will shut down the CPU if the battery gets to low.
(srry I'm on my BB so proper text is a issue)

No prob about the BB. Ive noticed on my system that in quick boot mode it seems to skip the ram test. If i leave it uplugged for long periods of time, or remove the ram, it will do a full test on the 512 at startup and that adds considerable time. Is your testing the ram everytime?

Not sure. I didn't see a quick boot that's why I disabled all. The bios isn't what hurts me that's about 10-15 seconds at most, the windows XP boot screen is what kills me. But I think if I did minilogin that would help that alot.

Have you tried bootvis? Its very helpful and informative. It lets you see (via a bar graph and line graph) whats going on at each stage of booting and drivers as well. Download it and give it a shot. If you need any help using it let me know.

Ive been debating mocking up my install in the car and testing it out for bugs and what-not. I was waiting til I had everything, but thats just gonna draw out the process longer. I think im gonna pick up either a m2-atx or a m3. I just dont like the idea of having to mount the m2atx, but hell its no big deal Also, in a couple of years i plan on doing a complete double din install, mother board and all, so i dont know what my power needs will be.
