I would hope that in a couple of years the power consumption will drop, just like it always has.

Well, I took my maiden voyage this morning with the system installed for testing. It worked well. Now, the problems i have to tackle from testing it:
Poor sound through fm modulator (i already knew this was a problem, and will order a pie gm-10 aux input to get rid of the poor sound)
Alt. whine (im not sure if this is a by productof the modulator or not, ill check it once i get my aux adapter)
Freefone pauses music when i get multimedia messages.
RR built in gamma doesnt seem to be working. (gamma control plugin?)
My motherboard doesnt fully support the m3-atx built in startup and shutdown controller (i plan on following a schematic from the ps forum with a cap and some relays to pulse the board to cause start and shutdown.)
Need longer molex connector to reach hdd in its installed location in the case.
Possibly custom build case to save some room over the monster stock case.
Iguidance doesnt lower volume when saying directions.
Movies stopped working for some reason.

Progress report from tonight: Got IG4 muting winamp with the help of navimon. Works great!! Also, reconfigured gamma control so its working properly. I ordered a m-f molex extension cable to resolve my hdd problems. I took care of my movie problems by redefining my mpc path in rrconfig. Not too bad for one night.

So ive got my molex extension cord installed, which allowed me to re-install the hdd into its original location in the case. Much better than flopping around like it was. Im starting to have issues with my bluetooth connection with my phone now though. It worked for weeks flawlessly in the house, but now that its in the car, it only lasts a few days before i have to re-pair my phone and computer. Its very annoying. It just seems like bluetooth is so flaky for just about anything.

Alright, ive had this thing in "beta" mode for about a month, and here are my results. Bluetooth connection for some reason looses pairing with my devices sometime between 1 and 2 weeks. Its usually a pain in the *** to get it paired back properly afterwards, but works flawlessly from there on out.
I was having a problem with my gps receiver that turned out to be easy to fix. I would at first have a very long time to fix, then it just stopped locking on at all. I thought it might have been xport, but talked to curiosity and ruled that out. I found that the positioning of the receiver. The tint on my rear window was messing with it. I attached it to the window, near the top, and all my problems went away. I usually have fix within a minute now.
I still have to make a smaller case for the pc (probably out of acrylic). Power my usb dvd rom, and add my sirius sc-c1 and mitchjs sc-c1 adapter. After that, i will install all of these things permanently in the car.

Was it the tint or the defroster grid? I don't think tint can affect it.

Nice setup
I was just wondering what all do you need to install that screen into the dash like that. I bought an indash motorized lilliput. its not fitting to well though. I would like mine to look fabricated as well. Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

The screen is a Lilliput eby701. That and a dremel + some time and epoxy and you can get the same results!
As far as the gps goes, its either the tint or the angle of the back glass. if i sit the receiver on the hump over the gas tank under the hatch, it wont lock at all. For the time being, ive taped it to the top of the rear windshield right at the "dotted" area. its view of the sky is the same, but it locks much faster. Im not sure which it is. but i figured it was the tint and not the angle of the glass.
Regardless, I just got home from my first "outing" with the car pc. Took a 120 mile each way trip tonight. Used the pc for music and guidance the way there, then guidance and entertained my fiance on the way back with Family guy Blue Harvest and Office Space on the way home. It worked flawlessly and made me quite proud!!
