Fried Rice's Accord Carputer
Finally, after searcing, reading, posting and most importantly, post whoring, i've finally finished testing the damn setup and am taking things apart for prefab.
Apologies for the low res pics, it's from my camera phone,my digicam is officially dead.
I decided to go with a laptop setup because i had an extra laptop laying around.
AMD K6II 3xx Mhz with 3XX mb of ram and a 20gb hdd.
It has 1, yes ONE usb 1.0 port and 2 pccard slots but no NIC no modem
Add ons:
1- 4 port usb 2.0 hub (not expecting speed but it'll help to power my USB stuff.)
2- Dlink Bluetooth adapter
1-Webcam
1- ipod dock (can't find it just yet but it's in here somewhere)
1- pocketpc cable
1-ps2 touchpad (ebayed and 1 week away)
1-dc-dc variable input/output power converter
Since my accord is about 14 years old, the dash is a bit brittle. Also, theres not much room to in the dash to do anything with my current hardware, i decided to mount the thing in front of my radio, on a hinged base on the centerconsole.
In the picture, you'll see a square brownish thing, that's the acrylic board i plan to screw the screen to. It'll be a frame which will connect to the hinges & dash. I'm hoping to get an Imac look. The notebook will be sitting in my glove compartment or under my seat, depending on where i can shove it. The glove compartment is next to the a/c unit and has lots of cold air moving around it. Underseat there are foot vents pumping out a/c air as well but i'll have to find a way to keep it clean. More pics and blah blah later. Time to extend the screen cables.

I'll go down to take some car and dash pics after i finish my pizza. As for computer... thats all for now. Gonna do the wires later tonight, the solder fumes helps me sleep . Nothing has been taken apart or progressedyet and is as you see in the one picture i posted. I should have more posted tomorrow when i've finished the wires and started to actually make some diagrams.

Ok. After a mandatory hiatus and a self imposed oned, i'm back with an update. I've managed to extend the cables to my laptop lcd and managed to correctly extend the inverter and status light cables, however i f'ked up the data cable and the computer wouldn't start up. Disconnected and it started up right away, plugged it back in and unplugged it. No obvious damage done, started right up when i unplugged this cable so here are some pics to hold you over for today.

Ok, next on the agenda:
1- fix lcd cable (swapped a few connections)
2- Find someone who has a glasser's stylus to cut down the acrylic board which will be my screen's frame (i don't have any saws and the only stylus i have is for putting more scratches on my pocket pc screen.
3- Find some way to cleanly put in an ipod dock on the "frame"
4- Either paint the frame black or have it tinted.

Here's the screen concept i envision, it's inspired by the LG Chocolate Cellphones. When the screen is off, it'll be totally black, but when i turn it on, you'll only see the screen and not the frame and wires. I intend to put the laptop's status light circuit board behind this frame as well and maybe etch some small HDD and Power plug symbols in front of the corresponding lights. Like i said before, this screen is too big to do a flush install so i'm looking to secure (word is loosely used) this with velcro or a hinges secured to the center console at the bottom and magnets holding the top in place. I'd really like the screen to be somewhat postionable so i may look into some other mounting method. With tint on the acrylic frame instead of a solid frame, i should be able to see my HU's screen and use it's remote to shoot through the screen to make adjustments rather than reach around the screen frame.
