The Boss Car of the Month

Boss because Iwent to the local market with a hundred dollars and told the car audio guy I wanted the best amp for the money. He handed me a Boss 600w amp. It hit harder than my friends 800w Rockford and my friends 600x audiobahn. Ever since then I have stuck with Boss.
I say car of the month because in the last Year I have gone through a few cars. A 1986 Porsche 944na which died. A 2000 Toyota Celica GT which my dad wrote a bad down payment check for. A 2005 Hyundai Tiburon SE which I payed a cash down payment but had to give back since they couldn't finance it. A 2000 Dodge Intrepid that fuel pump burnt out so I went to Chevy to trade it in. They put me in a 2007 Chevy Aveo5 Hatchbback. As of September 27,2006 I am still waiting for my first bill, so I know its really financed and I can get started.

Car Info related to CarPC install:
Speaker sizes - 4" front, 4"x6" rear
Din Size - 1.5 Din
Alt - 100 amp

At first I plan on running the show with a dvd/cd player and eq.

I plan on using speaker spacers to fit 6.5" Component Speakers in the front door panels and Custom molding another pair of 6.5" Components in the rear hatch panel.

In the hatch will be two 10" dvc subs in a custom fiberglass enclosure. Two amps mounted in the rear hatch, one to power the subs and one to amp the speakers.

On the hatch panel I want to mold in a ps2 like the Visionik demo car.

How hard it hits has more to do with the subs, the enclosure and the vehicle. Not the amp.

My subs were alpine 10" e series which I picked up to replace my free mtx 8" truck wedges I started out with. My friend with the Rockford amp had an Audiobahn Flame Q12" and my friend with the Audiobahn amp had an Audiobahn 10" filled dual enclosure. I put my amp in their cars to prove that I had the better amp and won. Of course this is back when the name brands were getting into trouble for over spec'ing their products.

lol - to prove that your boss amp was better?

isn't that like arguing over whether a kia is better than a daewoo?

well, it depends, do you want to die slow or die fast?

Kirby, just make sure that your amp isn't "better" cause their amps are't speced for their sysems. Honestly, RF amps are damn good. Not FOCAL, i win world class stuff, good, but in terms of consumer stuff they're damn good.

And i'm going to read this thread more casuse you and i went though a whole bunch of cars in under a year...i'm on 5 right now

When you say you went to "the local market" do you by chance mean Flea Market? Well, I guess you can't do much with $100 but I know I could find something better than BOSS by scouring eBay for a few minutes.

I think it is safe to say that BOSS is in no way better than Rockford Fosgate and Audiobahn. Whatever comparison you were making is horribly skewed. But at least you didn't ask if you could use PC speakers in your car.

I am not saying that one was necessarily better than the other. Just that my Boss amp hit harder than my friends in their own setup and I paid less for mine. The bang-for-the-buck is almost a motto around here, I've been around long enough to figure that one out.
By market I mean St. Mary's County Farmers Market, which is like a flea market but with more of a focus on produce. And don't be so easily skewed by brand names either. Like I mentioned years ago those same brands were overstating the wattage on their amps. So my comparison saying that an off brand hit harder than a name brand at that time is not skewed. Just like how Toyota was overstating horsepower years ago.
And if I wanted to use PC speakers in my car I know how to.
Saying a Kia is to a Daewoo what Boss is to a Fockford is not an apt analagy. Kia and Daewoo are along the same lines; cheap foreign cars that the only people that buy them are the ones that can just afford them. Boss is essentially a cheap Korean product made in China, just like most electronics are asian designed and built. The only time name brands come into play are with Class D.
Now if everyone is done threadcrapping I'd like to get on eBay and start buying.

Maybe your friend does not have his amps set up correctly.

I've been following the car audio business for quite a while. If anything is true, it is that you get what you pay for. Granted eBay has created a market for used products, factory refurbs, and other deals but it doesn't change the statement.

BOSS is bargain basement crap. I have heard it and will testify to that. If the amp is rated at 600w, you'd be lucky to see 400w and that is at 20% distortion with a 80db s/n ratio...at BEST. Now maybe they've improved a little since the last time I tortured my ears by listening to them but a quick look at their site doesn't convince me. Their amps are small and flashy and the power ratings they claim are outrageous compared to the size. Also, don't be confused with the MAX power ratings they plaster on their boxes. The only rating that matters is RMS.
