I'm planning on finishing my install next week while I'm home for thanksgiving. I'm in an apartment at college right now, don't have a garage to work in, and installing expensive equipment in plain view of everyone else is not recommended around here.
Anyway, I basically did the same thing you did alertik and fit my screen in pretty well too. However, I wanted to keep the open/close functionality 100% intact (ie push to open, push to close) and couldn't do that once the screen was in place. I have a BASIC Stamp microcontroller laying around a a few servo motors I considered using to automate open and close, but at $40 per chip I thought I could find a better use for the microcontroller.
Either way, I bought a new non-cutup compartment off of ebay and came up with a new plan. This time I'm going to cut the hinges on the door, and add a spacer, to move the screw holes back and down 1.5". I also cut the entire mounting assembly out of the sides of the compartment and moved them back away to match the new hinges. This made it much easier to mount the screen into the compartment. And the door looks & works just like the original.
After reading your thread I realized I could write a program on the pc itself and use the com port output to control the servos. I may have to give that some consideration.

I finally recieved all the parts, and finished building the computer, now its time to fabricate the screen.
Planning on doing very similar installation, BUT I am not going to use the frame for the LCD (lilliput 7"). Still cutting the compartment underneath the CD Changer. But only from the right side, to minimize the damage to the door opening mechanism.
Need ideas to what to use instead of the frame between LCD and the bezel.(if i need something or not).

Ahh, I see what you are doing now. (I was in your other thread) That is one hell of an Idea, If you used a sheet of plexiglass and painted the back with black it might look pretty cool, plus it would be easy to slide in (couldnt you do it from the top?)

No cant do it from the top, screen wont fit. Still have to cut it from the right side, reason for that is, because the door opening mechanism is on the left side, it only uses the right side for support in swinging back and forth.
I didnt thought about the PlexiGlass, thats not a bad idea, but cutting the Plexiglass fro m the inside is .... not sure how to go about that without cracking the plexiglass. Do you know of any?>

I would just drill a hole at each corner, then saw. I havent worked with it much, but I would think that you could also use a dremel with the cutting attachment or the rotozip. A finetooth jigsaw might do really well too, and be easier to manage.
The think with the plexiglass, you might have an opportunity to backlight it too with some leds, if you want to do something crazy.

wow!!!
I bow to you my friend
I didnt have to guts to cut my compartment bin, so I ended up removing it all together and keeping it in a safe place in case I need to sell the car again. Here is what I did using the dash kit that was sold on ebay.

i have a 2003 accord coupe lx. is there a way to install an aftermarket radio, not screen, to where the factory radio is now. I dont have dual climate control but i want to put my pioneer head unit in. Is there a way to do this without replacing the cubby hole?

There is a replacement you can buy for about 150$ from crutchfield. It replaces your current cd changer, and give you your HVAC controlls, and allows you to add a one din cd plater in it.

IJ_S where did you locate the X3?
I am about to do this install in my 07 Accord...the X3 is a lot bigger than I expected. Were you able to fit it under/behind the console? If not, where?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
