2003 Honda Accord work in progress

Hi all and thanks for the great forum. I started my install last weekend. So far all i bought is a 7" SUPER touchscreen and a Holux GPS reciever. (tight budget) I'm planning to use my laptop for now but later on i will permanenty put one in there or maybe i'll go with a pc.

I had to cut the screens buttons off to lower it down - since i wasn't able to see the top of the screen because of the cover. I do want to be able to close/open the cover (hopefully automatically).

I ended up relocating buttons to the top of the screen, since there was no room for the dvd-rom and i had to fill the gap.

I primed the thing and forced it in the car ... it cracked a little and then it cracked more while i was taking it out. i wasn't happy with the result anyway so tomorrow i will do some more bondoing/sanding.

screen fabrication is done

i did more bondo/sanding this weekend and I painted the thing with "ultra-flat black paint". it turned out to be ok, not as good as I would like but I’m pretty happy with it. I’m running power to the touch screen from the cigarette lighter. on one of the pics you can see where I placed the GPS antenna -- on top of the front dashboard right next to the windshield. and ran all the cables to come out under the passanger seat. The cover scratched the paint off the sides I will sand it down and touch paint, actually it doesn’t look as bad as on the pictures – camera flash made it much more visible.

I have 06. I thought about doing the same thing, but decided not to do it. The location of the screen is too low for my taste. I decided to buy a Metra Kit and try to fit 10" LCD there.

The stock radio has AUX input, but you need to buy an adaptor (PIE is a good starting place) You cannot make it accept an external audio signal by splicing wires. it won't work.

Cool.. so what kind of aux input is it? like a standard mp3 type player input?

I want to run stereo RCA's from PC to the input into nack of stock headunit then change speaker wire outputs to rca into amps then back to speakers.

Where are u putting a 10'? With dual air i dont htink i can change out the stock location plus i dont want to fiddle with the car to much to retain my warranty.

Hey it looks pretty good! It's what I was thinking about doing on my 05 hybrid...
What kit are you talking about jasonsjwou?? I'd love to have something up higher but not in the way and still keep the head unit.

You can find adapters that plugs into the aux. input spot that will still give you access to the xm radio... there are some that give you 3 audio imputs that you can switch from too...

what about placing the gps reciever under the "hood" of the dash that comes over the top of the airvents and radio. It's only plastic so I wouldn't think it would hinder the signal too much, and then it would be stealthy...

where did you buy the 2din pocket? is it perfect fit?

for audio input, buy car2pc adapter
www.car2pc.com
you can even control winamp or wmp from your head unit and steering wheel
Im not sure whether you can still use or xm radio with aux adapter or not..

The kit i got is similar to this but it is a double DIN or you can install the pocket and have it as a single DIN with pocket.
I will get the actual honda part # when i get home.

great idea... i'll probably do that. it looked cool in the beginning but it got old after few weeks, it flashes when on and its a bit annoying.

as far as aux in, there are 3 products i'm aware of PAC AAI-HON, PIE HON03/PC and Soundgate SNHOND3. i'm shopping for one right now... aux port is right in the bottom of HU - very easy to reach.

what did u use to seal up the daps?

hows the door function? does the screens frame get in the way?

lastly, can you take side shots with and without the door on? thanks

epoxy to hold it together, bondo to fill. The door closes and opens with no problems. Keeping the door functioning was my goal and is the trickiest part of the fabrication. if the screen was just a few mm wider or thicker it wouldn't fit and i would have to create my own casing for it.

I will post pictures next time i take the thing out, there is a pic with no door though... as you can see i had to cut off a lot of plastic, which makes the structure very unstable. once you put the bin back in the car, side-rails hold everything together. what i ended up doing is super-gluing bezel inside the car to make sure everything will fit, then reinforce it with epoxy.

i'm trying to figure out how to open/close the door automatically as i turn the pc on/off...
