The engine is an non-interference. I mention the engine swap because its something ive wanted to do for some time now, the belt going is my excuse to do so.

At this point the car sits in my best friends driveway, waiting for something to be done.

Thanks turbocad. And yeah thats whats on my mind.

My biggest blockade at this point is not having the room or resources to do it. If I had the cash in hand and the space to work. The car would be in the midst of work....

Now if only i had the cash and space......

LMFAO breakdown insurance....

No. I have like the most minimal insurance possible. because, well it is an old car. so a scratch in the bumper totals it...

I think i might keep the car. I'll do the work and replace the belt myself (its sitting on a shelf in my room as i type this.) The car will last until the end of sophomore year of college. At that point I think ill want a car on campus, and I can choose to keep my good old camry or get something new... or used.....

i completely understand why you don't wanna let go of the camry man. Just one thing, if i were to do an engine swap i'd go with a newer celica engine. the 5-sfe from the 3rd generation camries is preety good too. if you want power though get the 5-sfte from the gt-four.

Man that is a big job you are going to do. Good luck. The one piece of advice that I will give you is make sure you have the money to finish your project before you start. Then add 50% to it. I seen many mates projects get sold from lack of money. It is really disappointing to watch a project you help to do get sold for next to nothing.

The GT-4 (aka alltrac) was a 3s-gte the 5s-fe was in the base (5thgen). Engine swaps are a pain.

I wish you the very best of luck with this.
I'll be doing up a 97 Camry once I get it.
Hopefully I'll be able to pick up one with a manual transaxle. (1MZ-FE of course )
Otherwise, any ideas on how hard it is to swap an auto out for a manual trans?

I won't be doing half as many mods to mine as you will be

A pointer though: You're probably better off going with the V6 than the I4+Turbo, because the V6 has raw power, whereas with the I4+Turbo, you're pushing the engine (probably past its limits), and shortening its life.
I'm considering a turbo on the V6, but at the moment, it's the least of my concerns, when the 1MZ-FE puts out 190 horses stock

Oh, and not sure about laws where you are, but round here Hydraulic suspension is illegal.
Go the air bags. Easier to modify and repair yourself (and cheaper)

This has to be a joke, nobody could be putting this much into an 87' Camry.

Why must it be a joke?

I say go for it.
We used to have a 92 Camry (2nd gen, same model era) and that thing was bullet proof. Camry's are bloody hard to fault

Only reason we don't still have it is we wrote it off

LOL! Not sure what exactly your car was but the 1987-1991 was the second generation for the camry . The first was released only in japan from 1983-1986 i believe. But yeah these cars are TANKS.

Wow holy crap!! Thats quite a list! I hope it works out for you! Just make sure that every mod you do keeps the car running! What I mean is don't try to do everything at once! You will probably run out of cash and the car will be in pieces haha (but it looks like you already know that). I have a 90' camry right now that Im working on too. It is pretty old and has 273k miles on it (it has also been accross the U.S. 3 times), but runs just like it's new (albeit I only get like 25mpg for the 2.0 I4). I have only added small stuff like a nice sound system and a foglight mod (where the blinkers were) since I got it as a hand-me-down, nothing like what your are planning on doing. I would really like to see it all when your done, it might inspire me to do something to mine (although with soooooo many miles who knows)!
